"Who are you?" Have you ever thought this about a friend, a child, a spouse when a certain behavior seems uncharacteristic --- even astonishing, causing you to wonder if you ever really knew them at all? This is the mood of our text for this next Sunday. Paul is confounded by the behavior of those Galatian believers he brought to faith. How could they go back to their old faith, reject Christ's work of redemption alone; not to mention all of his hard work?
It is easy to fall victim to our pride isn't it? To think that the world should stay the way we want it to be, that once a person has chosen Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior that their hearts should be captivated forever. Sadly, we can get caught up in things that take our focus off of our Savior's love.
The good news of the Gospel is that God grieves our slips too, yet he did not base our salvation on our behavior . . . only on Christ's. God knew that we would slip and sent Jesus to live the perfect life, making the perfect sacrifice for us. How about you? The next time you are brought low by someone else's behavior or left wondering, "Who are you?" at their mistakes, remember, if God can make a way for you, covering your mistakes, then he certainly can make a way for them. In humility pray, forgive, laugh at yourself and trust that they are in the Lord's hands. Blessings, Rev. Ellen

Thank You Note from Doris Ann Ballard
|
Honoring the church today with flowers and song. I've been thinking about the church during my almost four months of healing. Thankfulness with Praise, Honor and Glory. "To the Church Triumphant." Bill and Gloria Gaither define it best with their music. I quote - "For the Church triumphant is alive and well. Oh, this ship's been thru many battles before. Storms and tempest and rocks on the shore. Tho' the hull may be battered, down inside it's safe and dry. It will carry its cargo to the port in the sky." So people we're the church - "called out" ones. "Saved by Grace." Let's stand strong for God will always have a people. His Bride the Church. (Matthew 16-18) Thank you Bethpage Family for all the love and concern for me and my family. We are truly blessed!! Amen!!! Blessings filled with Joy & Peace, Doris Ann Ballard

1,000 Can Challenge to Benefit CCM's Summer Food Drive
|
More than one in four children in North Carolina struggle with hunger. During the summer, the struggle for children to find a meal gets even harder, as only one of seven students who receives a free or reduced price lunch during the school year will get lunch on any given summer day. To help combat that issue, Cooperative Christian Ministry will be holding a summer food drive. As part of this food drive, Bethpage Presbyterian Church has elected to participate in the 1,000 Can Challenge, another project being offered to area churches to raise 1,000 cans of food for CCM through their congregations. Any canned foods may be donated, but most used items are pork & beans, corn, peas, and green beans. Your food offering may be brought to the church any time during the summer and can be dropped off in the narthex, in the hall outside the sanctuary, or in the hall outside the church office. To learn more about CCM and their summer food drive click on the logo below.

BLOOD DRIVE at BPC, August 17th
|
Community Blood Center of the Carolinas and Bethpage Presbyterian Church are having a community blood drive on Monday, August 17th from 4:00 until 8:00 PM in the BPC Fellowship Hall. CBCC is an independent, locally-managed, non-profit community blood center. They are the primary blood supplier to the region's patients and hospitals. They're members of America's Blood Centers, a group of 72 independent blood centers that supplies 50 percent of the country's blood. They subscribe to a community-based blood banking philosophy. That means community donors know that the blood they give stays in our community first -- helping family members, friends and neighbors. Excess supply is shared with other communities when needed.

Life Line Screening is Coming to BPC, August 20th
|
Do you have high cholesterol or high blood pressure? Have members of your family suffered from these ailments? If you answer "yes" to either of these questions, you may want to consider being screened for your risk of stroke through the services of Life Line Screening. Life Line Screening uses ultrasound technology to view the plaque buildup in your carotid arteries, the main arteries that carry blood to the brain. Blockages in these arteries are a leading cause of stroke. Life Line Screening is pleased to host this event at Bethpage Presbyterian Church on August 20th in the Fellowship Hall. Register for a Wellness Package which includes 4 vascular tests and osteoporosis screening from $149 ($139 with our member discount.) All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete. In order to register for this event and to receive a $10 discount off any package priced above $129, please call 1-888-653-6441 or visit their web site or call 1-888-653-6441.
