A Word from Rev. Ellen

She was a life-long Presbyterian, daughter of a Presbyterian Missionary to China, sister to the minister of one of the largest Presbyterian Church of America, wife to the most successful and influential evangelist of the 20th century, one of the finest Christian women of our time and a poet. Her name was Ruth Bell Graham. As we continue our way through Galatians this Sunday, her poem called, What He Wants is a reminder of what Ruth's most meaningful relationship was . . . living in Christ. I pray it will be a blessing to you this week. See you Sunday!

Blessings, Rev. Ellen

 What He Wants

It isn't your gold or silver,

your talents great or small,

your voice, or your gift of drawing,

or the crowd you go with at all;

it isn't your friends or pastimes,

your looks or your clothes so gay;

it isn't your home or family,

or even the thing that you say;

it isn't your choice of amusements,

it isn't the life you lead,

it isn't the thing you prize the most,

or the books you like to read;

no, it isn't the things you have, dear,

or the things you like to do,

the Master is searching deeper . . .

He seeks not yours, but you.

It's your heart that Jesus longs for,

your will to be made His own,

with self on the cross forever,

and Jesus alone on the throne.

1,000 Can Challenge
to Benefit CCM's Summer Food Drive

More than one in four children in North Carolina struggle with hunger. During the summer, the struggle for children to find a meal gets even harder, as only one of seven students who receives a free or reduced price lunch during the school year will get lunch on any given summer day. To help combat that issue, Cooperative Christian Ministry will be holding a summer food drive. As part of this food drive, Bethpage Presbyterian Church has elected to participate in the 1,000 Can Challenge, another project being offered to area churches to raise 1,000 cans of food for CCM through their congregations. Any canned foods may be donated, but most used items are pork & beans, corn, peas, and green beans. Your food offering may be brought to the church any time during the summer and can be dropped off in the narthex, in the hall outside the sanctuary, or in the hall outside the church office.  To learn more about CCM and their summer food drive click on the logo below.

BLOOD DRIVE at BPC, August 17th

Community Blood Center of the Carolinas and Bethpage Presbyterian Church are having a community blood drive on Monday, August 17th from 4:00 until 8:00 PM in the BPC Fellowship Hall. CBCC is an independent, locally-managednon-profit community blood center. They are the primary blood supplier to the region's patients and hospitals. They're members of America's Blood Centers, a group of 72 independent blood centers that supplies 50 percent of the country's blood. They subscribe to a community-based blood banking philosophy. That means community donors know that the blood they give stays in our community first -- helping family members, friends and neighbors. Excess supply is shared with other communities when needed.

Life Line Screening is Coming to BPC, August 20th

Do you have high cholesterol or high blood pressure? Have members of your family suffered from these ailments? If you answer "yes" to either of these questions, you may want to consider being screened for your risk of stroke through the services of Life Line Screening. Life Line Screening uses ultrasound technology to view the plaque buildup in your carotid arteries, the main arteries that carry blood to the brain. Blockages in these arteries are a leading cause of stroke. Life Line Screening is pleased to host this event at Bethpage Presbyterian Church on August 20th in the Fellowship Hall. Register for a Wellness Package which includes 4 vascular tests and osteoporosis screening from $149 ($139 with our member discount.) All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete. In order to register for this event and to receive a $10 discount off any package priced above $129, please call 1-888-653-6441 or visit their web site or call 1-888-653-6441.
