"What's new?" is a question we would ask any good friend. It's a checking in. What if it was also a way to share the gospel? My friend, Chris Walker's (the Evangelism Coach) shares how we can do non- threatening evangelism just by answering "What's New?"
The first story that every Christian should master: I call this the "What's New Story." What are "What's New" stories? They describe the current activity of God in your life, answering the question: What is God doing in my life today that makes the gospel good news?
Surprisingly many people have a hard time answering that question. It's like they have lost the language to speak of God's activity in their lives; how He pursued us prior to declaring our loyalty to Him, or how He has meets us today, or how He walked with us through prior suffering. Isaiah 63:7 reminds, "I will tell of the kindnesses of the Lord, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all the Lord has done for us- yes, . . . according to his compassion and many kindnesses."
"What's New" stories call us to tell of ALL the deeds of the Lord. Sharing "the many good things He has done." The evidence of a "real time" vibrant relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Here is an example: I used to walk with my friend on a regular basis. In one conversation, I brought up my small group discussion from the night before. With the same casual nature as a friendly conversation about daily events, I reported on the conversation. Amazingly, talking about my small group conversation opened up nearly an hour long two way conversation that dwelt on themes like: How to develop a relationship with God, How sin affects each person no matter how good they think they are, How Jesus reconciled us to God so that we might have a relationship with Him, How many good works does one have to do to secure the blessing of God and earn a spot in heaven?
How did I find these stories? I captured them during my devotional time. During my time of prayers of thanksgiving, taking note of how I saw God's hand in my life the day before. As I did this, I saw God at work in: Guidance, Healing, Love, Forgiveness, Growing a particular fruit of the Spirit, in a season of testing or in the blessings in the life of another. Finding your "What's New" story, will allow you to intentionally nurture your relationship with Christ. Spend regular time with Him and you will cultivate the sensitivity to see His Hand at work in your life. As you get guidance from the Lord, I pray you will take steps of obedience and live into the adventure of faith by sharing "what's new." If you do, you will always have "new stories" and who knows, help someone else to have THE STORY.
Thanks, Chris for a great article! So, "What's New???"
Blessings, Rev. Ellen

1,000 Can Challenge to Benefit CCM's Summer Food Drive
|
More than one in four children in North Carolina struggle with hunger. During the summer, the struggle for children to find a meal gets even harder, as only one of seven students who receives a free or reduced price lunch during the school year will get lunch on any given summer day. To help combat that issue, Cooperative Christian Ministry will be holding a summer food drive. As part of this food drive, Bethpage Presbyterian Church has elected to participate in the 1,000 Can Challenge, another project being offered to area churches to raise 1,000 cans of food for CCM through their congregations. Any canned foods may be donated, but most used items are pork & beans, corn, peas, and green beans. Your food offering may be brought to the church any time during the summer and can be dropped off in the narthex, in the hall outside the sanctuary, or in the hall outside the church office. To learn more about CCM and their summer food drive click on the logo below.
