VISION 2015:  GOD'S FUTURE IN FOCUS!

In the Book of Acts, the Apostle Paul received a vision from God. In that vision, a man from Macedonia, with his hands outstretched, implores him, "Please, come. Help us!"

Have you ever had someone face you with a request like this? I am sure you have. After all:

  • They line the exits to malls and interstates.

  • They are members of our congregation who are sick or grieving.

  • They call the church office on a regular basis. Are we called to help them too?

  • What about the calls from North West Cabarrus School district? "Please, Can you offer us some space for our children?"

  • They speed by perhaps on bicycles, "Please, can we have a place to park? A drink of water?"

  • They are single mothers, raising small children with no water because the landlord let a leak go and the water authority billed her 1700.00 for his mistake?

  • They are the children in our church that meet us each week with smiles and perhaps lunging hugs. Will we decide that sharing the gospel with these children and the ones yet to come will be what we are called to do? Will we make safe and beautiful spaces for him/her to hear about Jesus our priority?

What is the vision God has for Bethpage today?

These are the kind of questions we will be prayerfully addressing at Vision 2015: God's Future in Focus! May 16th from 9AM to 12 PM in the Fellowship Hall. Vision 2015: God's Future in Focus will be a two- part visioning process led by Rev. Shawn Barkley, Senior Pastor at Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church.

Make no mistake! Vision 2015: God's Future in Focus is without a doubt the most important meeting that the congregation of Bethpage Presbyterian Church- Kannapolis has hosted in past memory. It marks the turning point between the pain of the past and the sure and present hope of our future in Jesus Christ. How will we meet God's vision for us? How will we answer the call of our community and our world? Consider this your Macedonian call, "Please, come. Help us?"

Blessings, Rev. Ellen

Pentecost Offering to be Received Sunday, May 24th

The Pentecost Offering provides a direct way to meet the needs of children at risk, youth, and young adults. Forty percent of this offering collected at our 9:55 AM worship service on Sunday, May 24th, will be sent to Barium Springs Campus of Children's Hope Alliance (formerly known as Barium Springs Home for Children.)  Since 1891, this organization has been committed to a safe and nurturing family life for every child.  To learn more about Children's Hope Alliance, please visit their web site, www.ChildrensHopeAlliance.org.  The remaining 60 percent will go to the General Assembly to provide leadership development opportunities for Presbyterian youth and young adults and support children-at-risk programs at the national level.  Special envelopes for this offering will be included in the worship service bulletins next Sunday.  Please give prayerful consideration to your contribution for this worthwhile cause and place your envelope in the offering plate on Sunday, May 24thTo find out more about this offering, click the logo below.

The new Special Offerings logos highlight the connectional nature of our work.  We are individually strong, but can do more when we work together.  You will see the symbol repeated for each offering, as well as in our general Special Offerings materials.

CE Committee Updating Children's Spaces
The Christian Education committee would like to make some updates to our spaces for children.  We would like to make the children's worship room more kid centered and inviting.  We also need to furnish and decorate the nursery in the fellowship hall.  We have some great ideas that we can't wait to put into place.  This is where you, as the congregation, come into play.  We will need some donations to make this happen.  We are in need of lots of stuff, here are some examples:  cubbies for storage, kid sized tables and stools, a small dorm size refrigerator, a fun large rug, paint and new resources for lessons.  If you feel led to donate, we have a few opportunities for you:
  1. We will have a "giving tree" with pictures and prices for the items we need.  (much like an Angel tree . . . you choose what you would like to purchase and then donate.)
  2. You could give monetarily to the Christian Education fund.
  3. You could give of your time.  This summer we will be doing some painting and other projects.
  4. You could donate used items that could be put in these spaces.

We, as a congregation, love our children so well.  It is so clear with how many of you volunteer for Sunday School, Children's Worship, Nursery, and Bible School.  Please pray about this and help to further your wonderful support of the Children's Ministry here at Bethpage!

CCM Mobile Food Pantry at BPC - Thursday, June 4th

Bethpage Presbyterian Church will sponsor the CCM Mobile Food Pantry on Thursday, June 4th, 9:00 AM until 12:00 Noon in the BPC parking lot. Cooperative Christian Ministry conducts Mobile Food Pantries on a monthly basis in neighborhoods of high need. These highly effective food distribution programs overcome the absence of transportation for many struggling families, and provide supplemental groceries at a very efficient cost to CCM. Bethpage needs to provide volunteers to help that day from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM. If you are interested, please contact Chris Ferguson at 704-680-2783. Bethpage PC "Feed My Sheep" t-shirts and polo shirts, as well as BPC polo shirts, are now on sale and will be delivered before this event. Shirt orders will be taken through this Sunday, May 10th. Order forms are available in Sunday's worship service bulletin, outside the church office, or here.

Bethpage PC Community Garden
As warm days begin to replace winter's cold, and daylight saving gives us more light in the evenings, perhaps you are thinking of growing green things.  Last year's Community Garden Project was successful for those who participated.  It would be GREAT if we have even more gardens in the fence this year.  Start thinking if YOU want to plant and grow some veggies for your table (and/or someone else's) this summer.  Speak to Dougie Kirkman, so he can let his committee know that more spaces will be needed.  Get GROWIN'!
