April 26, 2015 | Fourth Sunday of Easter Quick Links
|

"He came near Damascus on his journey, and suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground hearing a voice say to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" "Who are you, Lord?" Saul asked. "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting," he replied. "Now get up and go into the city and you will be told what you must do." The Story p. 399
The Bible is filled with moments when people encounter God and in that encounter realized GOD's GREAT vision for his people and God's purpose for their lives. But this account sounds familiar. God appears to a man who has been a part of a murder, a man who lives in the enemies camp, standing against God's purpose, harming God's people, a man born as one of God's people but lost his way? Doesn't this call experience remind you of Moses?
In each case God had a mighty purpose and a powerful plan for these men to execute; to save God's people, to bring the Gospel of God's love to all the world through Yahweh in the Old Testament and the God made flesh, Jesus Christ and the advocating Holy Spirit in the New Testament. In each case this call would mean a new sense of call, new purpose, and newness of life. Their faithful efforts would bring God's love and faithfulness to all of his creation.
What is God's vision for us at Bethpage? What is the vision that will lead us through the next year's of ministry? That is a question we will want to discern together. But do we need to be knocked down by a burning bush or the presence of the resurrected Lord? I hope not! Or maybe?
The Session of Bethpage Presbyterian Church is announcing a two-part, church-wide visioning led by Rev. Shawn Barkley of Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church, to be held on May 16, 2015 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall. Mark your calendar for this historic moment in the life and ministry of God's people. What will God have to say to us? What is he calling us to do?
Blessings, Rev. Ellen

CE Committee Updating Children's Spaces
|
The Christian Education committee would like to make some updates to our spaces for children. We would like to make the children's worship room more kid centered and inviting. We also need to furnish and decorate the nursery in the fellowship hall. We have some great ideas that we can't wait to put into place. This is where you, as the congregation, come into play. We will need some donations to make this happen. We are in need of lots of stuff, here are some examples: cubbies for storage, kid sized tables and stools, a small dorm size refrigerator, a fun large rug, paint and new resources for lessons. If you feel led to donate, we have a few opportunities for you:
- We will have a "giving tree" with pictures and prices for the items we need. (much like an Angel tree . . . you choose what you would like to purchase and then donate.)
- You could give monetarily to the Christian Education fund.
- You could give of your time. This summer we will be doing some painting and other projects.
- You could donate used items that could be put in these spaces.
We, as a congregation, love our children so well. It is so clear with how many of you volunteer for Sunday School, Children's Worship, Nursery, and Bible School. Please pray about this and help to further your wonderful support of the Children's Ministry here at Bethpage!

Bethpage PC Community Garden
|
As warm days begin to replace winter's cold, and daylight saving gives us more light in the evenings, perhaps you are thinking of growing green things. Last year's Community Garden Project was successful for those who participated. It would be GREAT if we have even more gardens in the fence this year. Start thinking if YOU want to plant and grow some veggies for your table (and/or someone else's) this summer. Speak to Dougie Kirkman, so he can let his committee know that more spaces will be needed. Get GROWIN'!
