April 12, 2015 | Second Sunday of Easter Quick Links
|

This week in our Tuesday Morning Bible Study (10:30 AM - all are welcome) we spoke about the power of God's grace over sin. How appropriate for the week after Easter's resurrection. We then considered God's greatest acts of power; the Creation and the Resurrection.
In our discussion we looked at God's powerful action of creation, "Let there be, light . . . earth and sky . . . sea and dry land . . . animals . . . humanity" and literally his next act of recreation, "He is not here . . . he is resurrected" . . . God's, "let there be eternal life!"
As our discussion wound down it became clear to all of us that such power as this is the greatest Easter gift - given to us not through any merit of our own, but out of the free and certain gift of faith for those who believe.
So that is it? Well, yes and no. Belief is and is not as simple as some might believe. Yet, there is no greater freedom! For, belief in Jesus Christ mirrors the life of the one it comes from. It is a living belief that is total, a living belief that is life changing. Once discovered, this kind of living belief is one that does not sit still . . . it moves out, following its master.
Such a powerful God and sure promise of overcome death offers his disciples newness of life. NOW, not later. The resurrection question then becomes, "Is there anything in my life God cannot renew, cannot overcome?" Will I allow these sins to be crucified . . . that Jesus Christ's final recreation may be mine?
"Oh, to see my name, written in the wounds, for through your suffering I am free. Death is crushed to death; life is mine to live, won through your selfless love. This, the power of the Cross: Son of God, slain for us. What a love! What a cost! We stand forgiven at the cross1!"
Blessings, Rev. Ellen

Bethpage PC Community Garden
|
As warm days begin to replace winter's cold, and daylight saving gives us more light in the evenings, perhaps you are thinking of growing green things. Last year's Community Garden Project was successful for those who participated. It would be GREAT if we have even more gardens in the fence this year. Start thinking if YOU want to plant and grow some veggies for your table (and/or someone else's) this summer. Speak to Dougie Kirkman, so he can let his committee know that more spaces will be needed. Get GROWIN'!
