A Word from Rev. Ellen

"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray

and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from

heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

2 Chronicles 7:14

There are a number of exciting things going on at BPC! We have the continuation of The Story! Someone recently told me they had been in the church all their life and had never read through the entire Bible. For them The Story was a fulfillment of an obligation they had been taught all Christians should do. They hadn't and had felt shame about that. Now they felt no shame! That is exciting. Lent is approaching, a time of spiritual renewal and reflection!! That is exciting given that we have a loving God who is always ready and willing to bring us into deep relationship and transformation, when we turn to him!!! We have an ad hoc committee that is looking at our beautiful buildings and discerning what kind of improvements need to be made, in phases, to strengthen our ministry. That is very exciting! Worship, learning, grace . . . all these things are alive and happening at BPC. How many more things could you add to this list?

Recently, we have begun using a new Joys and Concerns System during our morning worship service. The use of written prayer cards, mixed with verbal requests seems to be going very well. This coupled with our Prayer Shawl Ministry shows BPC's growing commitment to prayer. We can honestly say that this is a praying church! Yet, how are we "Seeking God's face" as it pertains to BPC's next steps in healing and growth?

An Opportunity: Lent begins on February 18th this year! This six week season, by its very nature, is designed as a time to deepen our Christian prayer life. How about at BPC? Are any of you interested in joining a prayer group to pray together on a weekly basis for BPC; its present ministry and God's desires for our future ministry? If this invitation excites you, if you feel the Holy Spirit guiding you to be a part of this discernment, please contact me at 704-431-3700 or ellen@bethpagechurch.org. We can coordinate our meeting time based on the schedules of those who respond to this invitation.

Blessings, Rev. Ellen
