November 30, 2014 - First Sunday of Advent |
|
To see the law by Christ fulfilled, And hear his pard'ning voice
Transforms a slave into a child, And duty into choice.
William Cowper, Olney Hymns
This coming Thursday marks our National Thanksgiving celebration, followed by Sunday's beginning of Advent. Thanksgiving hope then might be the phrase that describes the season we are about to move into. But what is the source of our Thanksgiving, our Advent Hope? Our Savior, Jesus the Christ!
On that first Thanksgiving, the meal was a physical prayer of thanksgiving; for safe passage on the Mayflower, for provision enough to live through the winter, for a native people who aided these new immigrants in America; their native home not ours. Yet all of those truths primarily served a first - most fundamental reality - that in Jesus Christ, the expectations of the law were fulfilled, that all people were equal, that Christ had died for all and that a new life in him was our certain hope and greatest goal.
Advent is a time when we contemplate once again, all that God has done for us, his unswerving love and faithfulness in the form of a human, even a baby; the power of the godhead, in such broken majesty - come for all and yet - still to come. May the gospel take root in our hearts, may it be incarnate in our Thanksgiving hope - that all Christians may be led to "establish their complete happiness in Him." Blessings, Rev. Ellen

Ad Hoc Committee for Church Improvements
|
News! Good News! The session of Bethpage Presbyterian Church has created an Ad Hoc Committee to explore Capital Improvements to our beloved church. This committee will include Richie Goodman, Peggy Overcash, Gip Rumple III, Ellen Shore and members of the staff of BPC. The task: to identify the projects needed to revitalize our church buildings, classify these projects in phases, nominate and fill a committee to implement the changes after session and congregational approval. The time for these improvements has come! We look forward to this time of growth and renewal!

Testify Youth Choir Presents A Christmas Musical Program
|
Please join us in the BPC fellowship hall for a special G.I.F.T. Program on Wednesday, December 10th at 6:20 PM as the Testify Youth Choir will present a Christmas musical program. Testify Youth Choir is 150 members strong and represents approximately 35 churches in the Lake Norman area. Testify is a non-denominational group comprised of 7th through 12th graders. Our beloved Mary McKnight's granddaughter was a member of this group. The youth involved with Testify believe that God gives us gifts and we are to use those gifts to the best of our abilities to praise Him and to share Him with as many as we can. Sometimes it is not easy to tell others about Jesus Christ. Testify is a way the youth can do this in their own way, through music, drama and dance. Come join us in our Spirit filled, life changing adventure! God is amazing!

November is National Hospice Month
|
November is National Hospice Month --- a time to raise awareness and tell the good news of Hospice. The following is some information about Hospice you may not know:
- Hospice provides comfort and care to those whose life is measured in months rather than years. Care is provided in their home, a nursing home, an assisted living center, or at the Bob & Carolyn Tucker Hospice House.
- Hospice believes that when quantity of life is limited, quality of life is encouraged.
- Hospice believes in the dignity of all people and their right to participate in the planning of their end-of-life care.
- Hospice believes that, although healing of the body may not take place, spiritual and emotional healing can.
If you have questions or just want to talk with someone about hospice care, call a referral coordinator at Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County at 704-935-9434.
