NEWS FOR THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 26, 2014
|
|
My sister Sarah loved to bake. Whenever she got out her measuring cups and spoons the whole family knew that soon we would have something delicious to eat. It is my understanding that you must pay very close attention to the instructions of the recipe designer to get the results you desire; ¼ of a cup means ¼ of a cup. The same is true about building. My brother Tom, will tell you that because he designs homes. If the homeowner wants the final look of a Tom Campbell design, they must pay attention to the details in HIS plans.
The Israelites have been wandering in the wilderness for a very long time. They were NOT the best bakers or builders. They are too busy complaining and living in fear. Funny thing is that all the time God is giving them pretty clear instructions - strange, yes, but pretty clear! Instructions like; paint your door frames with a lambs blood, lift your staff and I will separate the waters, go into the land of giants and I will give it to you, or lift up a bronze snake on a pole and anyone whose shadow it touches will be healed.
Moses was pretty good at following instructions, but sadly, he was no master baker or designer. He didn't always follow the instructions God gave him. When the instructions confused him, or his fear of the outcome overcame him, he sometimes, did it his way. Remember the water from the rock? How about you? Do you make the mistake Moses made of thinking that some of God's instructions for my life just can't be right? I know what to do for my life? Young or old we can fall into this trap.
I think the reason God did not allow Moses to enter the promised land was because God knew he needed a leader whose precision was like that of a master baker or builder. God needed someone who would follow his direction, no matter how strange or wrong they seemed. He needed a Joshua, "I mean, walk seven times around the city, toot your horn and the walls will come down - really?" Later, God needed another Yahshua, Jesus, who would go to and die on a cross. Really? Really! What's God's recipe for you? Are you following God's plans to build your life? Trust him!
Blessings, Rev. Ellen

Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County will be holding their Golf4Hospice Fundraiser on October 27th. The funds raised are designated for the children's grief camp, Camp Wings2Soar.
