NEWS FOR THE WEEK OF AUGUST 31, 2014

The Story is Selling Fast!
|
We began to sell copies of The Story last Sunday at the Rally Day picnic and we have already sold a case of books! I think these sales point to the desire that many of us have, at BPC, to dig deeper into God's Story in our lives. I am always amazed by how closely I can relate to so many of the characters in the text of the Bible. Do you have this same realization? When I feel Christ's presence in my life, I identify with the women disciples; how they must have felt in Jesus' presence. When I am feeling overwhelmed by God' s call for me, I am transported to Moses' view of the burning bush and God's promise, "I will be with you." How about David's love for the Lord and his courage in the face of Goliath? What's your Goliath story?
Each week we will be looking at God's Story - God's eternal purpose and how that is shown in the scriptures. But we will also be looking at the individuals in the text. How did they enter into God's Story? How did God use them to show his purpose, love and presence to his creation? Ultimately, I believe that this study will help each of us to discern our story as a part of God's Story. Do we really appreciate how God is using each one of us to redeem his creation? Here is my prayer, "Lord, only 18 days left till we start The Story. Forgive our lack of focus on your Story. Prepare our hearts and minds to look anew on your Word. Renew us in unexpected and exciting ways. AMEN."
Blessings, Rev. Ellen

The Christian Education Committee needs volunteers for the 2014-2015 year. We need Youth Sunday School Teachers and Helpers, Children's Worship Leaders and Helpers, and Nursery attendants for the 9:55 AM Worship Service. Our plan is to return to the one month at a time scheduling format to coordinate with all the other volunteer needs during our services and programs. As we embark on a church wide use of "The Story," we have wonderful materials ready to train our children in this weekly program in Sunday School, Children's Worship and Senior Highs. We need your help, so please contact Carrie Paxton or Roger Hamilton.
Thank you, Christian Education Committee
