Flowers for This Sunday's Worship - August 10th
The flowers in the fellowship hall this Sunday, August 10th are given to the Glory of God and in celebration of our FirstPage Fusion Youth Group and Leaders.
Worship in the Fellowship Hall This Sunday
Don't miss worship this Sunday, August 10th!  The members of our FirstPage Fusion mission team will be sharing their ministry in New Orleans.  To accommodate their pictures, worship will be held in the Fellowship Hall at our normal time of 9:55 AM.
School Supply Drive During the Month of August

The Mission and Evangelism Ministry Area will be holding a school supply drive for Fred L. Wilson Elementary School during the entire month of August.  The teachers' "wish list" of supplies is: 

  1. Dry Erase Markers
  2. Clorox Wipes
  3. Gallon and Quart Ziplock Bags
  4. Post-It Notes
  5. Yellow Highlighters
  6. Tissues
  7. Economy Baby Wipes

Gracias . . . Hola . . . Would You Like to Learn Spanish?

The Latino Mission "Christ Savior" at Bethpage PC is offering a great opportunity to learn basic conversational Spanish in order to communicate with the Spanish community. Mrs. Narcissa Lear will be giving Spanish classes twice a week, Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on the third floor of the BPC Educational Building.  The cost for the class is $50 a month. A percentage of the proceeds will go towards Latin Mission Christ Savior. For more information or to register for class, please call Mrs. Narcy at 704-467-1241.

Men's Prayer Breakfast Meeting - August 16th

The Men's Prayer Breakfast group will meet this Saturday, August 16th, 9:00 AM at Fred L. Wilson Elementary School.  They will be putting together student cubbies for the first grade classes. 

Pints for Pencils Blood Drive - August 18th

Community Blood Center of the Carolinas and Bethpage Presbyterian Church are having a community blood drive on Monday, August 18th from 4:00 until 8:00 PM in the BPC Fellowship Hall.  CBCC's mission is to be the steward of a community resource; life saving blood.  CBCC collects blood from the community to return it to the community at the lowest possible cost, consistent with the highest standards of quality.  For blood donations during August, CBCC will provide school supplies to your local public school system! 

Coming Soon!  RALLY DAY - August 24th!
On Sunday, August 24, 2014, we will have our annual Rally Day Celebration in the Pavilion immediately following the 9:55 AM Worship Service.  Hamburgers and hotdogs with all the fixings will be provided.  There will be games for young and old.  The only thing you need to bring is yourself, your family, and perhaps a lounge chair.  Please plan to join us for this afternoon of fun and fellowship!  Our Worship Service will include The Sacrament of the Lord's Supper and will be held in the Fellowship Hall.  Lunch will be followed by a GA Update with Rev. Robert Austell.

Spares and Pairs will not meet in August or September, but will resume on Monday, October 6th, at 6:30 PM in the BPC Fellowship Hall.

Highlights of June 16, 2014, Stated Meeting of the Session
  • The meeting was called to order and a quorum was declared present by the Moderator. Rev. Ellen Campbell Gardner opened the meeting with prayer and devotion. The Agenda was accepted as amended.

  • Dennis Graybeal made a motion to approve the Stated Session meeting minutes of May 19, 2014 and Called Session meeting minutes of June 1, 2014. Voted on and approved.

  • Session updated Session Contact Information.

  • Session reviewed the July 2014 Calendar.

  • Session approved a request for use of the Bethpage facilities on September 4th and 5th, 2015.

  • Session elected the following officers for 2014-2015 and Corporation Officers of Bethpage Presbyterian Church:

    • C.M. Petrea, Jr.: Clerk of Session and President of Corporation

    • Roger Hamilton: Assistant Clerk and Vice President of Corporation

    • Christel Josey: Secretary of Corporation

    • Dennis Graybeal: Treasurer and Treasurer of Corporation

  • Sheila Grey and Kim Gibson were approved as Ruling Elder representatives to the Presbytery of Charlotte meeting on Saturday, July 19, 2014, 9:30 AM at Amity Presbyterian Church.

  • Session received Moderator's Report:

    • SOP review.

    • Visioning and Focus - discussed 2014 Session year visioning.

    • Promoting our mission.

    • Begin ELI training in Fall - Rev. Eric Laverantz, Senior Pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Stanley, Overland Park, Kansas to come October 18, 2014, for Elder training. Rev. Eric Laverantz will preach during the morning worship service on October 19, 2014.

    • Update of RightNow Media Programs.

    • Welcome Class of 2017 Elders-elect.

  • Session approved a recommendation from the Leadership Ministry Area to lease a new copier from Vision Office Systems, Inc. for the church office.

  • Session reviewed the May 2014 Financial Statements.

  • Worship Ministry Area passed around the Communion sign-up sheet.

  • Session approved the Property Ministry Area's recommendation for CESI to resurvey western and northern church property.

  • Communications Ministry Area brought questions of signage for discussion.

  • Fellowship Ministry Area announced the possibility of a Congregational Yard Sale in August.

  • Moderator will conduct Officer Training with Elders-elect and Installation Service will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2014.

  • Session worked on quarterly calendar. Calendars to be posted in the Session Room with schedule of ushers, nursery, caregivers, lectors, etc.

  • The next Stated Session Meeting is Monday, July 21, 2014, at 7:00 PM.

  • The meeting was adjourned and closed with prayer by Rev. Ellen Campbell Gardner.
