NEWS FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 13, 2014

A Word from Rev. Ellen - New Orleans Restoration
|
One of Our Book of Order's Foundational principles is that, "The mission of God in Christ gives shape and substance to the life and work of the Church. In Christ Jesus, the Church participates in God's mission for the transformation of creation and humanity by proclaiming to all people the good news of God's love, offering to all people the grace of God at font and table, and calling all people to discipleship in Jesus Christ. Human beings have no higher goal in life than to glorify and enjoy God now and forever, living in covenant fellowship with God and participating in God's mission." (F.101b) This Sunday we will be celebrating that goal by installing Elder Richie Goodman and commissioning the 2014 Senior High Mission Trip to New Orleans, LA. Four of our Youth Leaders, Brandi Coley, Sandra Cox, Heather Goodman and Richie Goodman will be joining six members of FirstPage Fusion. From 1st Presbyterian Church - Kannapolis (Anna Victoria Jacobs, Mary Elizabeth Jacobs, Tristen Adams, Logan Barnette, and Zachary Martens) and Bethpage Presbyterian, our own Eric Hamilton. They will be joining Senior Highs from across the country in New Orleans Restoration from July 19th through the 25th. This trip is sponsored by Son's Servants, an independent mission agency with links to the PCUSA. This six day mission experience will guide our leaders and youth through the rhythms of God's new creation. The folks at Son's Servants describe it as, "a hybrid between a mission trip, a family reunion and an amazing retreat." The average day will be split into three parts. The first part of each day will focus on being God's people through spiritual disciplines and biblical literacy. The second third is all about being God's servants by helping out in the community through construction projects and inner city/urban ministry. The third part of the day will be worship, fellowship, processing their experiences, laughing together and growing together in Christ. Our prayer is that God will enrich the lives and time you have together in ways none of you, or your congregations, can imagine. Blessings, Rev. Ellen |
