3rd Annual School/Community Garden
The St. Regis Falls School Garden is all about community. A community of teachers, a community of students and a community of residence, all benefiting from labor of love put into gardening. We start with educating students about planting from seed, to the garden, to harvest and eventually to the table.
"Project: Food, Land & People" is a curriculum to help educators and students better understand the interdependence of agriculture, the environment and human needs from lessons in areas such as science, health, mathematics, social studies, geography and consumer education. The end goal of this school garden is for students to witness the stages of plant development, production and harvest. We are planning a "Fall Festival" that will include a Harvest Dinner. The dinner will be hosted by the students with an open invitation for residence to come out a join in the Fall Festival and Harvest Dinner. |

How You Can Get Involved?
We need your HELP! As a small garden committee we are looking for students, parents and volunteers to help with the maintenance, harvesting and Harvest Dinner. Here is our list:
- Share with your child the importance of healthy food choices from a garden
- Share your time in the garden by helping with weeding, watering, cleaning, harvesting and cooking
- We working on a better watering system. Hopeful that everything will be in place by the time the planting day arrives.
- if you have an materials or services that you can offer, please email Danielle O'Mara at domara@mail.fehb.org or Rebecca DeVincenzo at rdevince@mail.fehb.org
- We have set the planting date for Wednesday, May 29, 2013. The plan is to start planting in the afternoon, so please stop by a lend a hand or support as kids, teachers and volunteers put in the 3rd annual school garden
- Plan on attending the 2013 Fall Festival which will include the harvest dinner
Please forward this to friends and neighbors so that they are aware of the wonderful school garden project happening right here is St. Regis Falls Central School.

"Agriculture in the Classroom" National Conference, Minneapolis, MN
Mrs. O'Mara accepted a partial scholarship to attend the 2013 National Conference for "Agriculture in the Classroom' from June 25-29th. This conference involves a network of state-based programs providing a wealth of opportunities for embedding agriculture, food and natural resources education into the K-12 curriculum. I have chosen workshops that include: School Gardening, Connecting Kids to the Wonders of Plants, Living Ag Classrooms:Effective Teaching; Authentic Learning and Gardening for Nutrition. Along with Learning Labs and Traveling Tours, I hope to network with other professionals who are successful in school gardening. I look forward to bringing back some valuable resources and ideas that will improve our school garden and the organization it takes for it to benefit everyone!
