Impact of U.S. Government Shutdown
on the IDESG October Plenary

The current government shutdown includes closing of the NIST facility in which the October 16-18 Plenary is scheduled to occur. In consultation with the Management Council and Secretariat, we have determined to wait another 48 hours before changing our schedule in hopes that the shutdown can be resolved and the government opens for business again in the near term.

If however we do not have confirmation from NIST by the end of this week, it will be our intent to switch to an Online Plenary instead. Notwithstanding the need to move to a virtual Plenary given our present circumstances, we will endeavor to look for opportunities for people to meet in smaller groups and to join the online plenary in such groups in Washington, DC. Given that many attendees have already made plans to come to Washington, DC, for other events such as the Smart Card Alliance and User Centric ID conferences, the Secretariat will work with local members to afford space for small group meetings as we are able.

While this is our present course of action, final decisions will be made by Friday of this week as to the need to convert to a virtual plenary instead of the face-to-face. For any local IDESG members who may be able to host a group of people in your company's facilities, please contact Kay Chopard Cohen, IDESG Executive Director, at [email protected] with your details. For those who have not already made travel plans, please do NOT book non-refundable tickets.  Please look for further communications on the IDESG website and future emails.

Thank you for your patience and understanding under the circumstances.
