Senator Chris Massey and Representative Charles Busby Receive Legislator of the Year Award

Two freshman legislators received the highest honor given by HBAM to an elected official during the HBAM February Board of Directors meeting. Senator Chris Massey and Representative Charles Busby received the
Legislator of the Year Award for their work in passing the two priority bills in the 2012 session; improving the home builder licensing law and the New Home Warranty Act.

The common theme that was heard around the state was to improve the licensing law by requiring general liability insurance. Equally communicated was the need to close the loophole allowing a builder to build two homes without being licensed. With the leadership and dedication of Senator Massey and Representative Busby, SB 2533 became law and those important issues were addressed in the licensing law.

Becoming a Mississippi Certified Professional Builder provides an opportunity for builders to pursue professional development through education and customer satisfaction. By agreeing to become a Certified Professional Builder, you will agree to meet standards beyond the licensing requirements of the Mississippi State Board of Contractors. Through the certification, builders will stay current on housing trends and the home buyer receives the benefits offered through the program.
