CYHS FRIDAY NIGHT SPECTACULAR

Asst. Principal Mr. Eisner with our DJ Jacob Morgenegg
Lots Going On ...
Friday, September 26th

This year, the Central York High School students celebrated several events at the same time.  We wanted to share a few highlights with you.

The students celebrated a "PINK OUT" in honor of breast cancer awareness. T-shirts were sold by the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) thru the CYHS School Store.

The Varsity Club, Student Council and the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) groups hosted a STUDENT TAILGATE EVENT.  There were games, music and free Panther Pride giveaways for all who attended and were wearing black and orange  or "Pink Out" gear to show some school spirit.  Check out these Student Tailgate pictures.

It was also BAND DAY....

"Band Day" is a District tradition that unites student musicians from North Hills and Sinking Springs Elementary Schools with Central York Middle and High School musicians for a performance before the home football game. Under the leadership of CYHS Band Director, James Martini, band students from grades 5, 6, 7, 8 & High School all performed together before the Friday evening game was held.  It was quite a sight to see.  The students were awesome and sounded terrific!

and then there were AWARDS...
Also before the game, the US Army and Central York High School made a few special presentations. The United States Army has Seven Core Army Values that include : Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage. Plaques were presented to CYHS Students Adam Reed and Tylin Firestone as young men who embody these Seven Core Army Values. Congratulations to Adam and Tylin!

CYHS was part of the "2014 US Army Friday Night Lights Tour".  As part of their tour of high school venues throughout the country this season, the US Army has brought with them a commemorative coin for the toss as well as a coin for each team to keep as a memento of that night's game. As a token of appreciation, the US Army also presented a commemorative game ball to CYHS Principal, Ryan Caufman.

And then there was the spectacular GAME !...
During the Division I game on Friday night, the Panthers put on quite a show. South Western had taken  a 13-3 lead early in the second quarter, only to have the Panthers rally with a field goal and a touchdown before halftime. South Western and Central played only two snaps in overtime, and the Panthers came up big on both to emerge with a 20-13 win.

IT WAS A GREAT DAY TO BE A PANTHER!

CYHS Homecoming Letter & Dance Guest Agreement
Any student planning on attending the CYHS 2014 Homecoming Dance being held on Saturday, October 18th from 7-10pm in the CYHS gym should read the attached CYHS Homecoming Dance/Guest Information which was mailed to all parents earlier in September.  You will find a list of regulations concerning manner of dress, behavior, consequences and any other pertinent information. This information also includes the CYHS Dance Guest Agreement should a CYHS student wish to bring a non-CYHS student to the dance.  The Guest Agreement needs to be signed by the guest's school administration and then approved by the CYHS administration. Please note that the deadline to register for the PSAT is October 3, 2014 for 11th grade students.

10th grade students will be allowed to register for the PSAT October 6 - 10, 2014 on a first-come first-served basis. Registration forms will be available in the Guidance Office beginning October 3, 2014. However, please know that the College Board will be implementing the new, redesigned version of the SAT beginning in the spring of 2016. The new version of the PSAT will be given in the fall 2015. Therefore, if current 10th grade students choose to take the PSAT this year, they will be taking the current version, which is different from the version they will take as a junior or senior. Those who wish to learn more about the redesigned SAT should visit https://www.collegeboard.org  then go to the SEARCH tab in the upper right corner and type in TEST REDESIGN then enter.  A variety of information is now available to you.

COLLEGE REPRESENTATIVES VISITING CENTRAL

Throughout this autumn, admissions representatives from MANY colleges and universities will visit Central York High School to meet with our students. They will share information about their college and its programs and they will answer questions from the students. Seniors and Juniors are STRONGLY encouraged to keep an eye on the list of colleges in the Counseling Office window and sign up to attend these visits inside the Counseling Office. Visits are also announced on CTV each morning and are listed with "Important Dates" on the Counseling Office website.

COLLEGE ADMISSIONS TESTING

College bound seniors should register NOW to take the SAT and/or ACT this fall. Students can register online at sat.collegeboard.org and www.actstudent.org. Our school code is 395430. Testing locations can be found online. Students with economic difficulties are encouraged to see their counselor to learn about fee waivers for these tests. After registering online, students are strongly recommended to take advantage of the free test preparation tools available on the registration website.

ALL college-bound juniors are strongly encouraged to take the PSAT October 18, 2014. A letter was sent home to all eleventh grade students regarding PSAT registration in mid-September. In order to register, students must bring the signed letter and payment to the Counseling Office by the stated deadline. Students will be given a practice test packet when they register.

PSAT results are expected to be available in early-mid December. Each student will receive a test score report and test booklet. School counselors will meet briefly with students to explain the test results and the National Merit Scholarship Program. Students may also schedule individual meetings with their counselors to discuss their score reports and to begin to explore career and educational opportunities.

ATTENTION PARENTS OF SENIORS!!
College Application Details from the Counseling Office

When students are ready to have the Counseling Office send their high school transcript to colleges, there are two important forms they must use to do so:  the pink "Consent for Release of Records" form and the blue "College Application Checklist".

The pink form should be completed only once and requires parent signature. This form is where the student indicates if they want their SAT/ACT test scores included on their CYHS transcript.

The blue form should be completed for every college where the student wants his/her transcript sent. When submitting College Application Checklists to our office, students are reminded to please allow a minimum of ten school days for the Counseling Office to process this request. Any College Application Checklists submitted with fewer than 10 school days prior to the college's application deadline may result in missed deadlines!

Also, please make sure that your senior is aware that we CANNOT submit transcripts electronically to any colleges except Penn State. This is a technology limitation of ours at this time. When applying online to any college or when completing the Common Application online, the student must PRINT any School Report or related form that is to be completed by us, and attach it to the blue College Application Checklist when submitting this to the Counseling Office.

Finally, did you know that there is now a "Common Black College Application" created by a company called EDU, Inc.? This application allows students to apply to 35 HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) at the same time for only $35. Interested students should learn more at www.eduinconline.com.

Important Seasonal Flu Vaccine Update for Parents/Guardians

Central York School District in the past offered Seasonal Flu Vaccines to students each year in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control.

The District has learned that due to funding shortages and program changes with these entities, we will no longer receive the FREE Seasonal Flu vaccines this year and therefore will not be able to hold the clinics as we have done in the past.

Parents/guardians should work with your family health care provider to make arrangements for your child's Seasonal Flu Vaccine this year, should you be interested in providing them with this vaccine.
CYHS Artist  News

CYMS Art teacher, Jessica Georg, displays the new design
Macy Peterman, a CYHS Senior, has been interning at the Middle School with the Art Department. The first week she was there, Mr. McManama (Principal) came to the Art Department and requested a "sign" for the new CYMS Media Center HUB. Macy immediately produced a design for consideration.  Macy's design was selected to create the digital version of the signs below. Signs by Tomorrow installed them.  Be sure to check them out next time you visit the Middle School!
Thanks Macy! Looks great!
