Cross Country Team Jump Starts Their Season
The Central York Boys and Girls Cross Country teams are off to a wonderful start of their 2014 season. In their 9/3 meet against Susquehannock, Gettysburg, and Fairfield BOTH teams went undefeated on a very hot and hilly course. The top three girls' times were posted by Paige Hartman, Haley Pfefferkorn and Bridget Palm.  The top three boys were Nick Swanson, Mike Lundy and Alec Evanitus.

On Saturday, 9/6, the teams traveled to Lebanon Valley College for an invitational meet. There they competed with Palmyra, St. Joseph's Prep, Milton Hershey, Annville-Cleona, Oxford Area SD, Lebanon, Cocalico, Central Dauphin, Northeastern, CD East, Garden Spot, Southern Columbia Area SD and Souderton. The boys came home with a 3rd place trophy. With 200 boys competing, senior Mike Lundy led the way for the Panthers earning a 7th place medalist finish with a time of 17:29, Nick Swanson at 17:50 took 12th place, Alec Gascot 18:17 placed 22nd, Tim Buzynski 18:24 placed 29th, Alec Evanitus 18:25 placed 31st.  The girls came home with a 2nd place trophy. With 150 girls competing, freshman runner Paige Hartman finished in 9th place with a time of 20:30. Following closely and scoring for the Panthers were Haley Pfefferkorn 21:08 placing 12th, Brooke Buzynski 21:19 finished 15th, Bridget Palm 21:27 finished 16th,and Jackie Ball 21:54 finished 20th.

September 9th both teams competed against York Suburban, Eastern, Northeastern and Delone Catholic.  Both the Boys and the girls came out of this tough meet with identical 4-1 records.  Losing only to Suburban.  There has been very impressive running by both the boys and girls teams.  They have now run against 7 league teams and both the boys and girls have 7-1 records. These runners have been reaping the rewards of their commitment to summer workouts.  Come support the teams at their next home meet on 9/23.
Coach Weber, Coach Lyons and Coach Mumford couldn't be prouder!

Music Boosters
The Central York High School Music Boosters
The Central York High School Music Boosters is an organization comprised of parents/guardians of students who are members of the Bands, Choruses, and Orchestras at Central York High School. There is no membership fee or dues - all parents and guardians of current students are automatically members of the Music Boosters.

The Music Boosters work closely with the high school music faculty to provide assistance and enrichment for the music programs at Central. The Music Boosters raise and spend over $10,000 annually to provide for things such as awards, scholarships, trip assistance, equipment, concert receptions, special programs, artist-in-residence, and much more.

The Music Boosters also provide for a variety of fundraising opportunities for music students to earn account credit that can be used for trip payments, purchases, lessons, and more. The profit from any fundraising project goes directly to the account of the student for his/her use during high school in the music department.

The Music Boosters sole source of income is the Concession Stand for all indoor sporting events. This is the only way the Boosters earn money to provide programs for our students. We ask that all parents/guardians of all music students volunteer a few times throughout the year. Signing up is as easy as checking the Online Schedule and choosing a date and time that is convenient for you.

PSAT Information
PSAT - Saturday, October 18, 2014

Information for the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) was recently mailed home to all 11th grade students. Taking the PSAT is an excellent opportunity to practice and become familiar with the SAT, which we encourage 11th grade students to take in the spring. Please note that the deadline to register for the PSAT is October 3, 2014 for 11th grade students.

10th grade students will be allowed to register for the PSAT October 6 - 10, 2014 on a first-come first-served basis. Registration forms will be available in the Guidance Office beginning October 3, 2014. However, please know that the College Board will be implementing the new, redesigned version of the SAT beginning in the spring of 2016. The new version of the PSAT will be given in the fall 2015. Therefore, if current 10th grade students choose to take the PSAT this year, they will be taking the current version, which is different from the version they will take as a junior or senior. Those who wish to learn more about the redesigned SAT should visit https://www.collegeboard.org then go to the SEARCH tab in the upper right corner and type in TEST REDESIGN then enter.  A variety of information is now available to you.

Welcome Back from your Counselors!
As we begin a new school year, there are so many things going on and it's very easy to get overwhelmed!  Please remember that the counselors are here to help and support students as they strive for success in school and in their futures.  We maintain a very active website filled with all sorts of resources for parents and students to access, so please visit it regularly to keep abreast of upcoming events!

Within the first week of school, we ask that you please look over your student's schedule for the entire school year with him/her.  Please check to be certain that your student has all of the correct courses and that the first semester and second semester schedules seem reasonably balanced.  Seniors should pay particular attention to their schedules for this year.  They should check to be sure they are scheduled for enough credits to graduate (28 credits are required) and that they are scheduled for all courses that they need to meet graduation requirements.  Counselors will meet with all seniors within the first marking period to go over graduation requirements and post-secondary plans; in the meantime, students are welcome to schedule an appointment themselves if they  would like to have this discussion sooner. Students interested in participating in college athletics are reminded to schedule an appointment with their counselor to ensure that they meet NCAA eligibility requirements.

As questions and concerns arise, please let us know how we can be of help.  The Central York High School counselors are:

Last names A - Co  - Mr. Matt McGee
Last names Cr - G  - Mrs. Charlotte Utter
Last names H - Le  - Mrs. Suzanne Schlager
Last names Li - Pa  - Mr. Eric Shellenberger
Last names Pe - Sm  -  Mrs. Wendy Hewitt
Last names Sn - Z -  Mrs. Julie Foery

We look forward to working with you and your student throughout their four years at Central!
