Alaskans bring expertise, experience to UNH oil spill response forum

Alaska was well-represented
at a two-day forum in New Hampshire organized to improve oil spill prevention and response. In October, the University of New Hampshire assembled nearly 40 scientific experts and industry specialists for Oil Spill Response: 25 Years After the Exxon Valdez and in the Wake of Deepwater Horizon, What Have We Learned and What Are We Missing? Among the expert panelists were Alaskans who played key roles in the responses or are recognized as leaders in science and Arctic policy. Read more.  

 


Plans under way for a Cook Inlet Harbor Safety Committee

The first informational meeting for a Cook Inlet Harbor Safety Committee held in Kenai on November 12, drew a large number of representatives of Cook Inlet's maritime community, industry, interested stakeholder groups, and local, state and federal government officials, and Cook Inlet RCAC. Since the Cook Inlet Maritime Risk Assessment was an important foundation for the meeting, the agenda began with a detailed overview of the Cook Inlet Risk Assessment (CIRA) presented by Tim Robertson, representing the CIRA project management team. Creating a harbor safety committee was a priority risk reduction option that grew out of the risk assessment as one means to reduce the risks of spills in Cook Inlet waters.  Read more

      


Meet Board Member Carla Stanley
Our Board of Directors brings a diversity of skills and backgrounds to the Council. Our representative from the City of Homer, Carla Stanley, is no exception. She is an artist, teacher, boater, outdoor enthusiast, EMT and marine scientist. She is also a mother of two with five grandchildren. Although technically retired, Carla works intermittently for the US Fish and Wildlife Service and has been on the Cook Inlet RCAC Board for 9 years. Driven by her eclectic interests and background she contributes extensively to making Homer a great place to live. Read more
