How You Can Help

Financial support is the Foundation's greatest need. Your financial donations are 100% tax deductible and support our programs - not operations.

Volunteers are also appreciated and welcome.

Greetings!

Happy New Fiscal Year!  2012-2013 was an exciting year for us as we neared the $100,000 mark in funds provided to teachers in our grant program.  We also initiated a Summer Art Camp that will bring STEAM learning to youth in an art education program.

(You can read more about both programs below).

We are very proud of our successes and are looking forward to providing even more enrichment opportunities to Alum Rock students in the coming year.

Enjoy your summer!

AREF Art Programs
 Art & Design Thinking Camp
Art Camp 2013 The Art & Design Thinking Camp is an adventure in making and imagining. Campers explored paper making, automata, circuitry, solar energy and much more, all in the context of public art and public community spaces.  This project-based camp engaged students in exploring design thinking processes, visual art and digital tools. Students worked collaboratively in teams as they explored creating prototypes of public space structures using 3D modeling tools as well as a variety of fun and surprising physical materials. Students also explored art techniques, public art projects, and documented their own learning, discovery and synthesis of design thinking. The camp was at the Mayfair Community Center from July 1st to 5th, 2013 (no class on July 4th). The 2013 Summer Camp was funded in part by the City of San Jose's Safe Summer Initiative Program.

Summer 2014 - Art & Design Thinking Camp

The 2013 pilot program will be used as a model to develop a 4 to 6 week camp for the Summer 2014. The foundation has already received a grant from Donor Circle of the Arts, a donor advised fund of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, to fund the 2014 Summer Program. We are working to secure the funds to ensure we can offer a 6 week program next year, and your support can make it a reality.
