High School Spring Sports Update
Wayne Hills
Boys Lacrosse: The boys lacrosse program more than doubled their win total from last year, won the Mayor's Cup for the first time in five years, and has qualified for the State Playoffs. The entire program also participated in a fundraiser with the PAL which raised almost $4,000 for New Beginnings for Tomorrow, a local autism charity.
Girls Lacrosse: The girls lacrosse team had a competitive season as well, both winning and losing some very close games by a one goal margin. They finish their season by beating PCTI and then West Milford to make it to the county finals. Unfortunately, they lost by one goal to the top-seeded Lakeland.
Boys Tennis: The boys tennis team captured the 2016 Passaic County Championship earlier in May. With 2 League matches yet to be played, the team is hoping to win its first Big North Independence Division Championship by season end. The team advanced to the State Semifinal round of the team tournament by defeating Passaic Valley 5-0 and Indian Hills 4-1.
Golf: The golf team had another successful season with a record of 23-5, and was winner of the Big North Championship. They successfully competed in the State qualifier and Passaic County Championship this week. After graduating twelve seniors last year, the team remains strong but young with over 40 male and female players combined. The team looks to continue to grow each year.
Softball: Some highlighted wins from the softball team this year included Montville 11-3 and Paramus Catholic 14-4. The team and coaches are looking forward to building a successful program over the years.
Track and Field (Boys and Girls): The girls track team has had a history-making season winning the school's first ever county championship in girls spring track. The team finished the regular season with a 4-1 record and won the Big North Independence meet, thereby also making them co-champions of the division. The girls are looking forward to a successful run through the state championship meet. The boys team narrowly missed the title and came in second in the county championship meet. However, they are having a very successful year and hope to compete well in the state championship meet and individual meet of champions.
Boys Volleyball: The boys volleyball team had a successful year defeating some local rival schools including West Milford, Lakeland, and Passaic Valley. The boys made it to the semifinals of the county tournament and will be participating soon in the state sectional competition. Overall, the team is looking to continue to be competitive in the years to come.
Baseball: The baseball team is successfully rolling through the season. With a current record of 21-4, they captured the Passaic County Championship by defeating West Milford 12-2. The team hopes to be highly ranked for the state tournament and continue their successful season.
