January 21, 2015 Board Meeting Reports & Presentations
At the January 21st regular meeting of the Wayne Township Board of Education, the district will be sharing some important reports with the public. The first report is the EVVRS (Electronic Violence and Vandalism Reporting System) summary. This is essentially an analysis of discipline issues in the district. The good news is that the district has experienced a dramatic reduction in the number of serious incidents of misconduct.
District teachers will be sharing their work as part of the Assistive Technology Team. The Assistive Technology Team assesses students with special needs for the provision of assistive technologies which support them in successfully engaging with the curriculum. This includes students with disabilities in mobility, vision, hearing, reading and writing, and mathematics.
Finally, the district will share information about our performance on the PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers). Superintendent Toback will be presenting the results of last spring's district-wide administration of the PARCC testing. As you know, there was no shortage of angst on the part of students, parents, and our staff members alike.
We are pleased to report that Wayne students did quite well in the final PARCC analysis. We saw many positives in the area of mathematics at the elementary level and especially at the middle school level. Due to the high number of students who did not take the test at the high school level (opt-out or test refusal), our results were negatively impacted.
As with any set of data, we also found some areas for growth and improvement. We view data as a critical informer of instruction and plan to use these results to assist our teachers to meet unique learning needs of all of our students.
If you are unable to attend tonight's Board of Education meeting, please know that the entire presentation will be posted on the website shortly. If you have questions about your child's specific performance, please feel free to contact their school.

Wayne Hills to Host FTC Robotics Tournament - Sunday, January 24th
The First Tech Challenge (FTC) program celebrates the accomplishments of robotics teams on tournament day. Tournaments are exciting sporting events with head-to-head competition between team-built robots, team and robot performance awards, and fast-paced robot maintenance/repair work. The FTC meet is taking place on Sunday, January 24, 2016 (Snow date is January 30th) at Wayne Hills High School. This is an all-day event from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. About 24 to 36 New Jersey high school robotics teams are expected to participate.
The event is part of the First Tech Challenge (FTC) robotics competition run by the non-profit organization, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST). It will be a fun-filled day of intense robotics matches and will showcase the innovative thinking, creative engineering, and hours of hard work that the teams have put in outside of their school work. Students and parents interested in the field of science and technology can attend the event, which is free of charge. Come out for a fun day--watch the matches and see different types of robots competing from teams all around New Jersey. Our rookie team, PATRIOTS, is hosting this FTC even for the first time and will also be competing. The Wayne Hills Robotics Team is already qualified to compete in the NJ state championship held at NJIT on February 28, 2016.
