District Automotive Technology Students Partner with Wayne Education Association to Make Holidays Brighter
Students in the Wayne Township High Schools Automotive Technology Program got a chance to put their hand tool and assembly skills to work putting together bicycles that made the holidays brighter for some local children.
Automotive students at both Wayne Hills and Wayne Valley High Schools graciously and expertly assembled the bicycles under the supervision of auto technology instructors Steve Hopper and Ken Bergen.
The members of the Wayne Education Association purchased eight new bicycles and helmets which were delivered to elementary students. The bicycles were part of this year's WEA holiday donation to families in the district.
An additional bicycle was donated by a few WEA members who wanted to do "a little extra", bringing the total number of bicycles to nine.
Wayne Education Association President Kathy Hanenberg stated, "The Association often donates necessities during the holiday season to benefit local families. When Automotive Technology Instructor, Steve Hopper, came to us with the idea of bicycles, we were excited to purchase the bikes and to partner with our auto students in such a meaningful service project. It is gratifying, especially at this time of year, to see staff and students working together - making a difference and brightening the holiday for others."
