Sustainable Jersey
All 14 schools in the Wayne Township Public Schools have met the rigorous requirements to achieve Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification. Out of over 2,500 schools throughout the State of New Jersey, 284 schools registered with the program. Out of those 284 schools, only 58 received certification. Our schools received 14 of these certifications, and is one of only five school districts in NJ to have all of its school facilities certified.
The district received Bronze certification for each school, which will be recognized at the NJ School Boards Conference in October. Bronze certification requires a total of 150 points. Point values are awarded for actions including achievement of energy efficiencies, green purchasing, cleaning and design, recycling and waste management, renewable energy, food and nutrition and staff wellness programs.

Week of Respect
During the week of October 5-9, the Week of Respect is being observed in all schools. Various themes will be presented including: "We, Not Me" and "Respect, You Have to Give it to Get It". Activities include: special anti-bullying themed assemblies, displays of literature on Respect in the library, and specialized classroom lessons on team building and Respect.
Theunis Dey: This week Theunis Dey will be participating in Table to Table's "Bag a Lunch, Help a Bunch". Students are given a brown bag to enclose a donation to Table to Table. Last year, this program was a great success. Table to Table is a community-based food rescue program that collects prepared and perishable food that would otherwise be wasted and delivers it to organizations that serve the hungry in Bergen, Essex, Hudson and Passaic counties.
Lafayette: Classroom Close-up New Jersey will highlight their recent mural project that supports the vision of a positive school climate and culture. Air dates for the program are: December 20 and 26; January 24 and 30.
Packanack: The school's PTO organized a school- wide assembly, featuring Channel 2 news Weatherman, John Marshall. Mr. Marshall demonstrated in an interactive way how to predict the weather and let students forecast the weather in front of a green screen, just like a real TV studio. The students became weathercasters for the day. The assembly was a great learning experience for the children and a big hit enjoyed by both students and teachers.
