High School Final Exams to Return in June 2016

test After much consideration about the impact of state and national reforms on the Wayne Township Public Schools, and hearing the feedback from our school community, the school district will be returning to a system of final examinations during this school year (June 2016). In order to preserve instructional time for what most people would agree was an excessive amount of standardized testing, the district did away with mid-terms and finals for the 14/15 school year.

At this point, we know that the PARCC Governing Board has reduced the number of testing windows from two to one, and we know that finals will assist students with their college preparation. The use of the data in the early implementation years will not provide us with as much information on our students as we would like. Finals will assist us in gathering additional data on our students' academic growth and progress. Therefore, it makes sense to reinstitute finals at this time, and we will continue to evaluate our testing and academic programs to determine if other changes are needed in the future.
Operation Take Back

wayne-police On Saturday, September 26, 2015, the Wayne Township Police department in conjunction with the DEA will be holding "Operation Take Back."

This event will take place in the lobby of Wayne Police Headquarters between 10:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M.

On hand to collect any unwanted, unused and expired prescription medications will be detectives from the Special Operations/Narcotics Unit of the Wayne Township Police Department.

The Wayne Police Department strongly encourages parents in our community to anonymously and safely discard any unwanted, unused and expired prescription medications.

This program is a voluntary prescription pill collection that will allow parents an opportunity to protect their families.

Over the counter medications, needles and liquid medications will not be collected. If there are any questions, please contact Detective Sergeant James J. Celentano at 973-633-3550.
NJDOE Announces Common Core Listening Tour

Last year, the Common Core created controversy in Wayne and many other communities. In response to concerns about the Common Core, officials at the New Jersey Department of Education announced a listening tour. Residents interested in providing feedback to the New Jersey Department of Education about the Common Core State Standards are able to do so at one of three meetings.

The meetings will allow for an open forum for community members, including parents and members of the business community, to address their concerns about specific standards. The three regional meetings will be held at the following locations; all meetings will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m:

- North Location: Sept. 17, Public Safety Training Academy, 500 West Hanover Ave., Parsippany
- South Location: Sept. 28, Stockton College Conference Room 101, Vera King Farris Drive, Galloway
- Central Location: Sept. 29, Mercer County Special Services School District, 1020 Old Trenton Road, Hamilton

Preregistration is required for all of the meetings and can be done online. What if I can't attend the listening tour in person? To further enhance public input about the standards, The NJDOE is also conducting an online survey about the standards.
