The Wayne Township Public Schools are pleased to announce that Character.org, a national advocate and leader for the character education movement, named Theunis Dey Elementary as a 2015 School of Character. 

The Schools of Character Program is not a competition, but rather an opportunity to go through a rigorous process of feedback and coaching, as well as recognition for growth and excellence in the area of character development through Character.org's 11 Principles of Effective Character Education framework.  Theunis Dey will hold its designation for five years.  Since its inception, Character.org has awarded over 300 schools with the distinction of a National School of Character.  

In 2015, along with Theunis Dey, 63 additional schools and 3 districts were named across the United States.

Summer vacation should be a time to relax and create wonderful memories with friends and family. However, students should not take a break from learning altogether. As a matter of fact, there is a well-researched phenomenon referred to as the 'summer slide' whereby students may experience a loss of their academic skills over the summer if they are not engaged in some sort of educational activity.

Summer Reading Can:
* Increase a student's performance
* Increase opportunities for family engagement
* Increase a student's overall motivation to read
