Wayne Township Public Schools appoints new superintendent
Pompton Plains resident Dr. Mark Toback has been appointed as the new superintendent for Wayne Township Public Schools, effective August 11. He comes to Wayne after three years as superintendent of the Hoboken district, and five years as chief school administrator at Sussex County Technical School in Sparta.
Toback also has held various administrative posts within the Leonia school district vice principal at the high school, principal of the middle school, and business administrator. In addition, he was both a principal and vice principal within the Haledon district; he began his career as a math teacher.
"I'm excited and honored to be joining the exemplary professionals who make Wayne such a respected education community," Toback says. "A district as large and vibrant as Wayne is an exciting opportunity for any educational leader."
Toback holds a doctoral degree from Rutgers University and a master's degree from William Paterson University. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Delaware.
"With Dr. Toback's exceptional and diverse background, the board of education is confident he'll excel as the new superintendent of Wayne Township Public Schools," says board of education President Laura Stinziano. "I'm extremely enthusiastic about the positive impact he'll have on so many of our young people."
Toback's leadership through the years has enabled him to develop a variety of successful initiatives, including enhancement of classroom technology, creation of unique partnerships with post secondary institutions, and improving standardized test scores.

Here are some reminders as we approach the last days of the school year:
- June 24: minimal day for students (lunch will be served)
- June 25: minimal day for students and the last day for students (lunch will be served)
- The promotion / graduation schedule for our secondary schools is as follows:
- June 23 - Anthony Wayne Middle School at 6:30 p.m. (WV gym)
- June 24 - George Washington Middle School at 6:00 p.m. (WV gym)
- June 24 - Schuyler Colfax Middle School at 6:00 p.m. (WH gym)
- June 25 - Wayne Hills High School at 6:00 p.m.
- June 25 - Wayne Valley High School at 6:00 p.m.
