Security Referendum Update

Security Referendum Update The Board of Education has postponed its planned March referendum vote related to safety and security upgrades at several schools. While the proposed upgrades are important, the decision was made to ensure voters would be casting ballots on spending for upgrades with full information on the upcoming budget's tax impact. Since state approval for a referendum has already been granted, a vote on safety and security-related upgrades will remain a possibility for either September 2014 or January 2015. We remain confident that students are quite safe in all schools. The proposed improvements represent needed upgrades to further strengthen our security, surveillance, and communication systems, as well as an opportunity to have the state fund 40 percent of the project. Updated timelines will be announced as they become available.

In the meantime, your continued support, cooperation, and reinforcement of all school and district safety and security procedures is greatly appreciated. In addition to speaking with your children about being vigilant of their surroundings and reporting anything out of the ordinary to an adult, it is critical that they are reminded to always listen to their teachers' and administrators' instructions whether it is during a drill or certainly in a real emergency.
