Shifting Gears

Over the course of this school year, you will continue to hear a lot about the various mandates that are impacting student learning throughout the state of New Jersey. Although the names may have changed over time, the initiatives have existed for several years. The major "shift" that is taking place right now is that we are making a state-wide conscious effort to connect these different components for the expressed purpose of improving student learning. The key now is understanding how these "gears" work together to move us forward.

Standards and Curriculum: As far back as 1996, schools in NJ joined the standards movement by adopting the first set of core curriculum content standards. These standards, which are continuously being reviewed, revised, and readopted according to the changing trends in research and practice, identify the core learning expectations for all students attending NJ public schools. Schools and districts such as Wayne, in turn, develop curriculum that incorporates those learning standards and MUCH MORE in order to meet their needs and expectations...

Congratulations to Wayne Hills and Wayne Valley students for receiving recognition for their outstanding academic achievement in the following areas: National Merit Scholarship Semi Finalist and Commended Students, National Hispanic Recognition, National Achievement Scholarship, AP Scholars, AP Scholars with Honors, and AP Scholars with Distinction.
