Marie's Message
Weekly news and notes from Head of School Marie Dugan
Welcome back! I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. I enjoyed time with my family and now look forward to spending the next two and a half weeks with my WMS family as we prepare for winter break through celebrations including tomorrow night's Holiday Cultural Potluck, our 5-9 holiday concert and so much more. When I looked at the WMS Facebook page over Thanksgiving break, I witnessed an amazing discussion about why our families, staff and alumni are grateful for WMS. Alumna Alexis Szkotak thanked WMS for "giving me friends, great teachers, education, and a true, genuine love of learning!" WMS mom Kathryn Marriott shared the following: "My 17-month-old in Lauren Harris's class started saying 'please' this week when asking for things...I'm so grateful that his time spent away from our nest is under the guidance of such caring and loving educators. We are so blessed to be part of such a well-rounded, wholesome community." Join the conversation on Facebook!
A Five-Star School
This golden anniversary year is an exciting time for WMS. We are proud to be at the forefront, not only of Montessori education but also of the new educational paradigm, preparing children to be the creative, compassionate and innovative leaders of tomorrow. The Delaware Department of Education has recognized us as a model early childhood institution, awarding us with a Five-Star Designation through the Delaware Stars for Early Success Quality Rating and Improvement System. We are the only Montessori school to receive this honor.
As more and more families learn about the leading-edge education WMS provides, our enrollment continues to grow - we now have 234 students and are actively planning for the 2014-15 school year. Lisa and I are working closely with the teachers and staff on the school's strategic plan, which includes enhancements to our programs in technology and the arts. In everything we do, WMS remains at the forefront of quality education and steadfast in its focus on fostering independence and academic excellence that creates high-level thinking.
