The Roadmap Region Race to the Top has continued to build steam! We have issued a final RFP for the Project 1 investment fund and met with a variety of community partners. Please continue reading for more details and feel free to share this e-newsletter with others!

On July 1st, the RFP for Project 1: Investment Fund for Teaching and Leading launched. The goal of the Project 1 Fund is to improve teacher and principal skills and abilities to implement personalized learning environments in the Consortium's high-need schools. The overall emphasis of this fund is on scalable, high impact improvements in math, science and ELL instruction as well as teacher/principal leadership. The first round of investments begin in Fall 2013.
Districts of the consortium are encouraged to apply for the Project 1 RFP. Optional Letters of Intent are due on July 19th, with two information sessions to be offered on July 17th and July 25th. The final due date for the RFP is August 19th at 5pm.

Community Partners Meeting

On June 27th, Road Map Region Race to the Top hosted a meeting with community partners. In addition to receiving an update on Race to the Top projects, community partners offered thoughts on how to create successful community-school partnerships.

Enhance Postsecondary
Success Symposium
Puget Sound ESD Superintendent John Welch, along with colleague Mary Jean Ryan Executive Director of Community Center for Education Results and the Road Map Project, recently presented at an event focused on Common Core Standards and assessments. The symposium provided participants with updates on those policies and practices shaping implementation of Common Core Standards with focus on SMARTER Balanced Assessment. Participants also heard about resources supporting work taking place across the state to foster professional learning about the SMARTER Balanced Assessment Consortium, as well as how the Common Core Standards and assessments can help improve college readiness, college persistence and success of recent high school graduates.
The event included participants from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, Washington State Achievement Council, Puget Sound ESD and others.
