Loop Trail Update
Project Construction Delayed Until Spring
Seattle Parks and Recreation advertised the Arboretum Loop Trail for public bid in late July and opened bids in late August. Sadly, the two lowest bids for the project were both $1million over our budget. Because of the city's booming construction market, estimates made last spring have generally been about 20 percent off compared to recent bids. The project team will now work to value-engineer and rescope the Loop Trail project to reduce costs. The project will have to be rebid, and construction is now expected to begin in spring 2016.

The Stunning Fall Attributes of the Sorrel Tree
Native to the eastern and southeastern United States, Oxydendrum arboreum is a deciduous understory tree with some wonderful ornamental attributes, including crimson-red fall foliage and contrasting, silver-grey seed capsules. The Foundation's resident plant guru Randall Hitchin describes the tree and tells you where to find it in the Arboretum. Read more.
