The Quilter's Color Club has lots of info on every aspect of color. You can find my book on my website .

Nature knows best
On my recent trip to Santa Barbara to teach for the Coastal Quilters Guild, I took this pic in the Alice Keck Park Memorial Garden. I think it's a lovely example of a split complementary color combination: green, red-orange, and red-violet.

"Urban Ombrés" workshop
This newsletter is short and sweet, to show you my latest quilt, "Urban Ombrés," which I'll be teaching at Sugar Pine Quilt Shop (530/272-5308) on June 8. The cost of the class is $50.

The quilt measures 42" x 42". You can buy a kit that contains the fabrics for the quilt top plus the pattern for $56 the day of the class. (You supply the backing and facing fabric.) Of course you are free to choose your own fabrics; just the pattern is $10. The kit will be available in my Store June 10.

I had so much fun making this quilt, and I love the graphic impact created by the ombrés. It's as if light is sweeping across the surface of the quilt and moving within the blocks.

Remember. . . ?
In the last newsletter you saw this block, but I didn't tell you that my original plan was to make the blocks for the quilt above with light-value fabrics in the centers.

However, when I made several blocks following that "recipe," they were too light and airy. When I auditioned Marcia Derse prints for the centers, the quilt came alive. The block shown here is made with the same narrow strips as the upper left block in my quilt. What a difference one fabric makes! The lesson? Audition and edit, audition and edit.
