The Quilter's Color Club has lots of info on "special effects." You can find my book on my  website, at C&T, and in quilt shops and bookstores.

Check out my schedule for workshops and lectures. I'm always adding new dates!

This Month . . .

I'm trying to catch my breath after a wonderful year of traveling to teach. Thank-you all for coming to my lectures and taking my workshops and attending my retreats. You make this job so rewarding!

It's good to be home, and staying home for a while. But I have still been busy, adding new items to my website, including the ombré fabrics I love so much. You can see them in the Store on my site. The image above is of "Gelato" bolts; below is the kit I've put together of Gelato strips (or 1/4-yard cuts) and my pattern.

strips and patt, gelato

And this is the quilt, "Lustrous Squares," made from Gelato fabrics. It's an example of luster (the easy way): orienting the strips according to their values implies light sweeping across the surface of the quilt. Of course, picking the center fabrics (these were all from Kaffe Fassett) and the border fabric (wish I could recall who made it!) is half the fun.

I've also been working with "Gradations," a popular line of ombrés by Caryl Bryer Fallert; the grouping I've put together below is also a kit of strips (or 1/4-yard cuts).

And here are two blocks using "Gradations" fabrics, with a batik in the center of one, and a Kaffe print in the center of another.

These colors are much less intense than the Gelato colors, and the value shifts are more random, giving the blocks the illusion of sheen.

Again, you can see both groups of ombrés, as kits and yardage, in the Store.

My series "Special Effects with Color" begins on November  30. You can log in as a Basic (free) member; just sign up in the upper right corner of "The Quilt Show" site using your email and a password.

The lessons stay on the "Classroom" page, so after each one has aired, you can watch anytime you want. And as you watch, please participate in the "color studies." There will be giveaways for those who post their studies: two of my books The Quilter's Color Club, and two of "Christine's Color Wheel."

Finally, If you're a brand-new subscriber to this newsletter, welcome! You might like to go to the Archived Issues to read short articles on topics like Intensity, Transparency, "Magic Fabrics," "New Neutrals," and more.

Next time. . .
I'm still working on a new quilt about layered transparency, and I will show you how the illusion works and just how easy it is to achieve. Next time, for sure!
Lecture and Workshop Schedule
