Mensch of the Moment
Please help us to identify worthy individuals who we can honor as a "Mensch of the Moment." A mensch is a decent, responsible and honorable person who works diligently in the Beth El community without a lot of fanfare or notoriety.
For more information, please contact Norma Gindes or Lisa Berley. You can send your suggestions to them or complete the short nomination form on the website under the Social Action tab.
The Mensch of the Moment committee will post a photo and description in the lobby of the honoree's accomplishments and contributions, and publicly recognize them in the synagogue newsletter.
Message from Chevra Kadisha
The Board of the Beth El Chevra Kadisha has decided on a new 'form' for the annual celebration of our group and the work we do. Instead of our dinner on Erev Shemini Atzeret, the commemoration will now take place in the spring during the month of Adar - the anniversary of the death of Moses and his burial by G-d. This will replace the dinner that we have enjoyed at Beth El for the last several years, since that is a very busy time in the Jewish calendar for all of us - we believe that it is seen as much a 'burden' as an 'opportunity'.
The celebration of our Chevra Kadisha will now take the form of our group sponsoring a Shabbat Kiddush as close as possible to 7 Adar, the date traditionally held to be the yarhzeit of the death of Moses. There will be some variations to services that day and a short program during the Kiddush to recognize the service we provide.
For more information, visit Important message from Chevra Kadisha.
