BE in CollegeCollege
The Synagogue Life Committee has mailed holiday gift packages to our college students for many years. This academic school year, we will launch BE in College Packages. Rather than sending one package to our college students, we will mail three packages over the academic year! These packages will help to observe Shabbat and holidays and to let the recipients know that they are part of the Beth El community.
To sign your child(ren) up for the 2015-2016 academic year, visit BE in College.
Room Available
Free one-bedroom furnished apartment (including washer/dryer and dishwasher) immediately available in Durham near Duke and South Square Mall in exchange for minimal assistance to a senior independent woman with low vision. Please contact Naomi Alpern at 919-485-9700 or at [email protected]
SULAM for Emerging LeadersSULAM
One of the impressive things about Beth El is the partnership between staff and lay leaders.  Some people easily adopt lay leader rolls, perhaps because of past personal or professional experience that left them feeling prepared. If you have not previously been involved in the lay leadership, but are interested, we want to cultivate your talents and boost your confidence.  In our conversations about USCJ membership, we learned more about a program called SULAM for Emerging Leaders.  We are hoping to have a pilot class next year.  If you are interested, please contact Barak Richman, the chair of the nominations committee who can explore with you, your interest and tell you more what you can expect.  Hoping that whatever roles you choose at Beth El bring you joy.

Weekday Sim Shalom books
New weekday prayerbooks have arrived! These new Weekday Sim Shalom books are being used at the Wednesday morning minyan at Beth El. If you are interested in buying a book to be donated to Beth El, please contact Sheri in the office so that she can properly adorn the book with a label to honor your loved one or a special event. The cost is $20.

Memorial Book
If you wish to have the name(s) of your beloved departed listed in our annual Yizkor memorial booklet, please complete this form TODAY.
The Yizkor prayer specifically makes reference to a pledge of tzedakah to perpetuate the memory and ideals of our beloved departed. Any charitable offering shall be wholly voluntary in keeping with the sacred spirit of the occasion. Therefore, we do not have a schedule of mandatory fees to honor the memory of your loved ones in this booklet. Each person may respond with a contribution in accord with his or her own inner prompting and ability.

Institute of Islamic and Turkish Studies Invitation for Iftar (Evening Meal Fast Break)
Thur. 7/16 @ 7:00 pm
In the past, the Institute of Islamic and Turkish Studies-North Carolina (IITSNC) in Cary has invited Beth El Congregants to share evening meals ("Iftar") with them during Ramadan, and they have invited us again this year. Ramadan began in June, and we have reserved the date of July 16 for a Beth El group to attend.  The program begins at 7:00 pm with a documentary, "Love is a Verb," about Fettulah Gulen, an inspirational leader of a brand of Sufi Islam that the folks at the Center hold in high regard.  A Question and Answer session about the Institute, Ramadan and Islam, will follow at 8:00 pm, and dinner will be served at about 8:40 pm.
Please contact Sheri if you are interested in attending.
