Hats off to the 50 Detroit community leaders, academic researchers, and others who gathered at Sindbad's on May 27, 2015 for the Detroit URC's Annual Community-Academic Networking Social. Participants broke into small groups to discuss environmental health, physical activity, mental health, and several other important issues related to health equity in Detroit. Congratulations to winners of the Detroit URC's sixth consecutive Small Planning Grant Program, which supports the establishment of new community-academic partnerships and collaborative health research efforts in Detroit. The three selected teams will each receive up to $4,000 to pursue their projects in the Motor City, starting in September 2015.

New CBPR Partnership Academy Underway!
The first cohort of the Detroit URC's new CBPR Partnership Academy completed their five-day intensive course about Commmunity-Based Participatory Research at the U-M School of Public Health on July 17. Based on evaluations and comments we received, participants learned a great deal in the course--and are looking forward to the year-long education, networking, and mentoring available through the program. The Michigan Institute for Clinical & Health Research (MICHR) is accepting applications for its Community University Research Partnership Award (CURES) through September 11, 2015. Open to communities and community-based organizations throughout the state of Michigan, CURES supports collaborative and innovative research projects that offer unique solutions for improving patient and community health outcomes.
