Greetings!

I know this is not my usual, upbeat tone for newsletters. Today I feel such heaviness and burden. With the newest of Planned Parenthood Black Market videos posting, it is just so tough to acknowledge that this is our reality in America! I have written a blog that brings to light that abortion issues will not be resolved simply by closing Planned Parenthood. In order to win this war on women and the unborn, we must shut down the demand for abortions. I invite you to read it here.

"Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. If you say, 'But we knew nothing about this,' does not He who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not He who guards your life know it? Will He not repay everyone according to what they have done?"

-Proverbs 24:11-12

Stacy's Story

Stacy, a pleasant young woman in her 20's, called the Helpline asking for information on the abortion pill and procedures. The Helpline Scheduler explained to Stacy that it was important for her to schedule an appointment to make sure she had a pregnancy that would carry to term. Not sure she was ready to schedule, Stacy wanted to know where she could get the abortion pill. The scheduler told Stacy, "We do not perform or refer for abortion at our clinic," but she would receive valuable information she would need before going any further with her plans to abort. Cost was also a concern for Stacy. The scheduler told her, "All of our services are free." Stacy decided it would be worth her time to come in for an appointment.

At Stacy's initial appointment, she stated emphatically that she was planning to abort. Her boyfriend told her he "definitely did not want a kid." Her mother said she would support Stacy no matter what choice she made. During her first appointment, Stacy agreed to STD testing and an ultrasound. On the ultrasound screen, Stacy could see and hear the little heart beating even though she was pregnant less than six weeks by her dates and measurements. Stacy also agreed to view the models the sonographer offered which show the development of the baby from nine to twelve weeks. She did not want to take sonogram pictures with her. A return appointment was made for Stacy to come back in one week to receive the results of her STD tests and get one more look at the baby during a second ultrasound.

Within an hour after Stacy left the center, she made a phone call to the clinic asking if it was really that important that she return the next week, "because," she said, "I am going to have an abortion . . . I just want to get this taken care of." Stacy was told that her results would be available the following week, and she would also have the opportunity to check once more for the heartbeat of the baby. The phone call ended. Thirty minutes later, Stacy called back and asked why the STD results were important (even though she had already received this information at her appointment). The call was transferred to the nurse, and she patiently explained, once again, why it was important for Stacy to wait for her STD results before going on to schedule an abortion. Speaking truth, the nurse stated, "You have an early pregnancy. You have plenty of time, and this is important information to have."

Stacy reluctantly said, "Alright, but I've talked to my mom. It would be the best thing for me. I am going to abort." And so the prayers for Stacy began . . .

The following week, Stacy returned for her second appointment-with her boyfriend-always a good sign. During the first moments of the appointment, the advocate asked, "Last week you stated your intention to abort; has anything happened to change that?"

Stacy said, "You know, ever since I made this decision to abort, I've been very depressed-so depressed. I've cried and cried. I promised myself if I was ever in this position, I would choose adoption. I mean, my boyfriend does make some good points (about abortion), but I just don't know. I'm going to have him in the ultrasound room so he can hear the heartbeat. That's what really got to me."

And hear the heartbeat, he did. Although he said practically nothing, he had a look of wonder and curiosity on his face. The boyfriend did not want to look at the baby models, but Stacy said she would like ultrasound pictures this time (also a good sign). Stacy left the center undecided as to the outcome of this pregnancy, but has agreed to come back to another appointment. She has moved from being completely determined to abort the pregnancy to considering the adoption option, but outside pressure exists from her boyfriend and mother.  We'll update you with our next newsletter---please don't forget to pray for this sweet young lady to stand up against the pressure she is facing!

"For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

2 Timothy 1:7

Will you please join us in praying for these attributes to surface in Stacy so that she can choose life for her baby? She'll need the Lord's gift of power, love and a sound mind to stand up to her boyfriend and make a good decision. Please join us in praying for him as well.

We are currently operating at an 84% success rate with the girls we see turning from abortion and choosing LIFE!!!

This year, the PRC is on track to successfully reach and turn the hearts of over 200 women like Stacy, which translates to over 200 babies saved! These numbers include women who come into our center wanting an abortion and those who are vulnerable to abortion due to risk factors. Thank you for supporting our efforts to reach these women.

Annual Banquet News!   Only TWO Tables left!

In years past you probably could wait until the last couple weeks before the event to finalize your banquet plans. This year the demand is so high that we've already filled 60 of 62 tables, two months ahead of the September 15th event! Praise GOD!

If you don't have your table yet and you respond quickly, we will try to get you set up to be a Table Captain. Remember the event is free to attend, but it is our biggest fundraiser of the year. A Table Captain recruits 7 other people who are potentially interested in financially supporting our organization to join them at their table.

Our speaker, Melissa Ohden,  is the survivor of a failed saline infusion abortion in 1977. Despite the initial concerns regarding Melissa's future after surviving the attempt to end her life and being born alive at approximately seven months gestation, she has not only survived, but thrived. With a Master's Degree in Social Work, she has worked in the fields of substance abuse, mental health, domestic violence/sexual assault counseling, and child welfare. Melissa and her husband Ryan have a daughter, Olivia, whose birth at the same hospital where Melissa's life was supposed to end, has significantly shaped Melissa's ministry.

In 2012, Melissa founded The Abortion Survivors Network, www.theabortionsurvivors.com, after recognizing the number of abortion survivors out there. She has been featured on television and radio programs including: The 700 Club, EWTN's Life on the Rock and Defending Life, Fox News, Facing Life Head On, Focus on the Family, and American Family Radio, the Mike Huckabee show, and the Teresa Tomeo show. Her life and ministry is featured in the award winning pro-life documentary, A Voice for Life.

Melissa's life story is about the beauty of God's grace in our lives, about the power of love, about the hope for joy and healing in the midst of grief and loss, and about the transformational power of forgiveness and in answering God's call for your life. Fulfilling the purpose that she believes God set out for her when He saved her from the certain death of the abortion attempt, Melissa is truly a voice for the voiceless.

Show Me Women Who Care
Join to help us obtain new
Parenting Class curriculum!

Show Me Women Who Care is a giving circle in Andrew and Buchanan Counties in Northwest Missouri.

  • They meet four times a year
  • Three women explain a local cause (if there are more than three there to present, they will do a drawing to determine the three that will present)
  • All members in attendance vote
  • All members write checks directly to the winning charity
This is all done in one hour or less!  Sounds pretty easy doesn't it?
It is!

The next meeting is August 11th at 5:30 in the theater room in the basement of the East Hills Library.  Best meeting ever ~ 30 min and you will make a difference in our community!  We hope we will be chosen to present at this meeting, and it would be very helpful to have as many people there supporting (and voting) for us as possible. We'd like to make an appeal for new parenting class materials, as ours are outdated.

In order to vote you must join first. You can do that by going to their website, filling out the application, and bringing a copy of the completed application with you to the August 11th meeting. By joining, you are committing to make a quarterly donation of a minimum $25 donation to the charity that is chosen at each meeting.

Please share with anyone you think would be interested in joining.  The meetings are quarterly and typically raise a minimum of $4,000 for the winning nonprofit!

Volunteer Spotlight!
Meet Kodi Moore

"Behold children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward." Psalm 127:3

This is the verse that led Kodi to our center to volunteer. She knew about our organization through her brother, Dr. Ryan Walker, who serves as our board president. She also hosted a table with her husband Eric at the Annual Banquet last fall.

Kodi and Eric attend The Edge and recently celebrated their 11 wedding anniversary! They have two sweet children, a daughter, Allie who is 8 and a son, Sam, who is 6.

Kodi is volunteering as an advocate in the clinic, serving as a friendly face and gentle spirit with the girls as they come in desperately searching for options. Kodi's prayer is that her connection with the girls will lead them in the direction of Jesus. She says that, "I honestly feel God's presence in the clinic and pray that the girls that enter feel it too--through our love and light."

Psalm 40:1-3 "I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord."

This is Kodi's favorite verse. She says,

"This passage spoke to me at a time that I was lost. It's kind of my 'theme.' God truly has lifted me out of the mud and yuck and set me on solid ground."

Defending life is a passion for Kodi. She's thrilled to be a part of a mission to defend the life God created, while glorifying Him! Her passion is contagious!

She says, "I am excited to be a part of the PRC! The feeling I get when I walk in here is amazing. You can feel God's love here, and it's inspirational to be around women who are overflowing with God's love and desire to serve him."

Kodi, thanks for being one of those inspirational women as well!
