,We are looking for your nominations for Small Business Week 2016. There are 16 different categories to nominate entrepreneurs and those in the community who support entrepreneurship in Northeastern California. Please consider taking a few moments to nominate a leader in your community. Submissions end on January 5th.
We're about a month away from the 2016 Economic Forecast Conference. We're anticipating a record crowd of attendees, so please be sure to register early. There will be Early Bird Registration discount applied for all registration types until December 31st, so take advantages of these savings soon.
We also have a report from Matt Staggs describing his experience working as a Senior Research Marketing Assistant at the Northeastern Small Business Development Center.

2016 Small Business Week Awards
National Small Business Week has been recognizing the special impact made by outstanding entrepreneurs and small business owners since 1963. During this week, the U.S. Small Business Administration honors small business owners and entrepreneurs for their outstanding achievements through various awards.
SBA is currently seeking nominations from the public for exceptional entrepreneurs. You can use this online portal to submit your nomination for the following awards:
- Small Business Person of the Year Awards
- Small Business Exporter of the Year
- Jeffrey Butland Family Owned Small Business of the Year
- Minority Small Business Champion of the Year

NECSBDC Senior Research Marketing Assistant Spotlight

In December 2012, I began working as a Research Marketing Assistant at the Northeastern California Small Business Development Center (NECSBDC). This month marks my last month as an
undergraduate at California State University, Chico. As a Business Administration Major with a focus in Marketing, a Minor in Project Management and a Professional Sales Certificate, this marketing research assistant position helped further my education and experience by giving me an opportunity to expand my business professional knowledge in a real world setting.
I have worked on a variety of projects for the NECSBDC during my three years of employment, all of which have offered a valuable first-hand experience in the economic development industry. The most impactful projects include leading and conducting Client Feedback Surveys, Chrisman Surveys, and Business Needs Assessment for the established and pre-venture businesses that NECSBDC assist as a Lead Center in the Northeastern California region. These experiences have given me an opportunity to utilize my skills and knowledge base that I have gathered over my career and education.

Choose Your Business Structure

- Sole Proprietorship
- A sole proprietorship is the most basic type of business to establish. You alone own the company and are responsible for its assets and liabilities.
- Limited Liability Company
- An LLC is designed to provide the limited liability features of a corporation and the tax efficiencies and operational flexibility of a partnership.
- Cooperative
- People form cooperatives to meet a collective need or to provide a service that benefits all member-owners.
- Corporation
- A corporation is more complex and generally suggested for larger, established companies with multiple employees.
- Partnership
- There are several different types of partnerships, which depend on the nature of the arrangement and partner responsibility for the business.
- S Corporation
- An S corporation is similar to a C corporation but you are taxed only on the personal level.
