Director's Corner
Dear
,

Capital Access remains a high focus for our over 1,800 entrepreneurial clients this year. So far in 2015 we have helped small businesses access over $25 million in new capital. Over the next 15 months we expect to expand our support to small businesses interested in capital access. Reach out to your local SBDC service center (link to the left) to learn more about how we support small businesses to secure new capital.

In this month's newsletter you will find a great line-up of workshops and webinars to support your small business. Additionally, each local center has a full schedule of workshops for businesses seeking to expand, or for new entrepreneurs seeking to launch their new venture.

Have a great October!

Sincerely,

Strategies: Small business depends on Silicon Valley

What's Silicon Valley cooking up now to help small businesses?

I had a chance to find out when I arranged an "Insider's Tour of Silicon Valley" to celebrate the 35th anniversary of America's Small Business Development Center network (ASBDC).

On Sept 9, I took approximately 70 small business consultants on a tour of three companies dramatically affecting the lives of small businesses: Google, Intuit and Facebook. My guests were ASBDC "State Stars" - individuals who made exceptional contributions to small business in their area.

For 35 years, SBDCs have

helped small businesses, start-ups and the self-employed survive and thrive. Each year, more than 1 million entrepreneurs come through SBDC doors for free consulting or low-cost training. A new business is opened by an SBDC client every 33 minutes, a new job created every seven minutes. Read More

Growing A Small Business, Creating Jobs, and Leveraging Resources like SBDCs

Ty Kiisel Forbes Contributor

During every election cycle politicians love to talk about the important role small businesses play in the U.S. economy-and for good reason. They create the lion's share of new jobs and hire roughly half of the workforce in the United States. Just how many new jobs does this mean? Small businesses collectively create a new job every seven minutes according to America's SBDC, a trade group that represents the network of Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) all across the country.

I'm writing about them here, because I believe they provide a valuable service that has the potential to help more businesses succeed, create jobs, and strengthen local communities. Read More
