Director's Corner
Dear ,

The first quarter of this year has been a very successful one for the Northeastern California SBDC and its clients.  While we do not loan capital to small businesses, we work closely with small business owners to prepare them to apply for loans or seek new investors.  In the first quarter we've seen a 300% increase in requests for loan technical assistance.  This comes at a moment with the California Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development (GoBiz) has partnered with our offices and provided us with matching funds to meet the increased demand.  As a result, we anticipate exceeding our annual goal of helping entrepreneurs and small business owners access $20 million in new capital this year.  My thanks to the GoBiz staff for their support of the Northeastern California SBDC program.

In this month's newsletter, we are highlighting the economic impact of our program; accountability is very important!  We emphasize outcomes in the work we do; more specifically, businesses created and dollars accessed.  You will see that highlighted in the first two articles.  The first article focuses on Northeastern California, while the second article highlights the California SBDC program impacts (statewide).

May is small business month.  Look for a variety of small business events in May, through your local NEC SBDC office (see links to the left of this article) or your regional Small Business Administration (SBA) office in Sacramento.  They are having their SBA Small Business Awards event May 7th in Sacramento.  The final article in this newsletter will provide you with additional details.

Sincerely,
