Director's Corner
Dear ,

2015 is a special year for the Small Business Development Center program.  In September we will be marking our 35th anniversary providing entrepreneurs and small businesses with training and one-on-one business advising and technical assistance.  Over the coming months we will be highlighting some of the ways SBDCs have made a difference in Northeastern California and the nation.

On our anniversary year, the national SBDC program is undergoing a rebranding effort.  In our first article we are spotlighting our new logo.  While in the past, each SBDC in the country had its own logo.  Soon, SBDCs across all 50 states will have a similar logo.

We have three new SBDC service centers this year.  Our new offices are in Sacramento, Truckee, and Mt. Shasta.  Look for more details on the exciting programs of these three new centers.

SBA is on a road trip, highlighting a new Innovation and Technology national road show.  Details below.

Finally, the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development (GoBiz) is holding a series of regional workshops on how small business can access the new "California Competes" program.

Sincerely,

Dan Ripke

The Sacramento Metro Chamber formally launched its small-business development center Tuesday, promoting a new consulting service that helps small businesses secure capital.

The Capital Region Small Business Development Center, which actually began operations late last year, aims to bring $6.6 million in capital investment to the Sacramento region this year while helping to start 50 new businesses. The center ultimately hopes to serve 2,000 small businesses each year.

"The drivers of our region are the small businesses. We want them to take hold," said U.S. Rep. Doris Matsui, a Sacramento Democrat, at a ceremony held at the Metro Chamber headquarters Tuesday.

SBA Promotes Innovation and Technology with National Road Tour
U.S. SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will launch an 18 state road tour, joined by 11 fellow federal agencies in the SBA's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs.

The SBIR Road Tour "Seeding America's Future Innovations," is a nationally focused outreach initiative targeting advanced technology communities, including women-owned and minority-owned small businesses in states that have underutilized funding opportunities through these programs. Today, the agency is launching information on the tour through www.sbir.gov and will also launch a blog that will be active up through the end of the tour in late August.

"The SBA oversees America's largest seed fund for small businesses in the STEM fields. The SBIR and the STTR programs-allocates $2.5 billion a year to small innovators. By reserving a specific percentage of federal R&D funds for smaller firms, Uncle Sam encourages domestic small businesses to engage in high-growth priorities and build a strong national economy. SBIR recipients have created breakthroughs in nanotechnology, robotics, mobile communications, genetic therapies, clean energy and space," said Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet. READ MORE
