Gov. signs bill to allow small-biz owners to keep existing health coverage through 2015
Gov. Jerry Brown has signed legislation that gives small employers the option to keep health care coverage that does not comply with the Affordable Care Act through 2015. Senate Bill 1446 by Democratic State Sen. Mark DeSaulnier from Concord takes effect immediately. Small employers can renew coverage at any time of the year. The bill was sponsored by California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones, who blasted Covered California last year when the state health benefit exchange bucked an Obama Administration plea to allow individuals and small employers with coverage that didn't meet new minimum standards under the ACA to keep the plans for up to almost two years. This policy was later changed to allow renewals that would carry some coverage through most of 2017. READ MORE
