Venutre Capitalist Ben Horowitz and Wife
Felicia Make Major Donation to Via

Via Services Receives Major Donations

A number of entities and individuals recently made major donations to Via Services including Ben and Felicia Horowitz who are long-time supporters.

The six general partners of Andreessen Horowitz - a high-profile Silicon Valley venture capital firm - including Ben committed to donate at least half of all income from their venture capital careers to philanthropic causes during their lifetimes.  The Horowitz family has been the main sponsor of our annual Via Ball for the last several years and also made a major contribution to our capital campaign, which resulted in a new sleeping lodge being rebuilt. The lodge is named after their daughter, a long time participant of Via West.

A number of other local entities also have stepped forward to support Via. The Sobrato Family Foundation donated $31,500 in the form of a challenge grant and the Martha E. Sanfilippo Foundation, donated funds to buy a new freezer and replace roofs on two buildings at Via West.

The Richard and Emily Levin Foundation made a generous donation for general operations. The Wells Fargo Foundation, another long-time supporter, with the TouchPoint Foundation both recently donated.  The Endue Foundation contributed funds to underwrite two iPad workshops in San Mateo County.  San Jose Water also made a donation to Via Services.

We would like to thank these donors and everyone else who makes a contribution to Via Services.   Your generosity is greatly appreciated by all of us, including the families we serve.

Via West Earns Top Survey Marks Again!

Respite Season Ends on a High Note

Nearly nine out of 10 parents gave perfect marks to Via West's April 20th respite weekend, ending a highly successful season of programs and activities aimed at helping families of children and adults with disabilities. Eighty-eight percent of parents rated their participant's experience a perfect 5 out of 5. One mom noted that "it was a perfect weekend" and another said of her daughter's time, "It is great that she can not only have fun but also learn some skills."

Participants Enjoying Respite

Many enjoyed the changes that were introduced this year, including giving participants a choice in which activity to partake. Other changes included e-mailing our menu ahead of time to help parents plan for special diets, and incorporating iPads and Via's Living Healthy theme into each respite.

The Via West staff is now at work preparing for our summer programs. We are excited to offer new programming, including integrating physical fitness, nutrition, cooking, social skills, and iPad instruction into each session. We now offer day and weekend programs as well as field trips off site during the longer sessions.

"We'll make the most of our beautiful hiking trails, swimming pools, camp-out areas, sports court and main lawn to engage participants in activities that range from iPads to crafts and culinary arts to adventures on the fitness trail," says Sandy Keefe, Associate Director and Health Care Manager. "As the weather warms up and the grounds of Via West are greener by the day, I'm excited about the coming of summer." Do not miss out on all of the fun! Register now!
