The first LOTW House Meeting was held on Wednesday evening.  It was a great opportunity for people to share what they love about this church. Some of what was heard:

  • We are a close-knit community who care about one another.
  • I love the music.
  • I hear sermons with a message that applies to my life.
  • There is life in my church and quiet for my soul.
  • Imperfection is OK.
  • Kids love to come to church.
  • We are an accepting, welcoming, non-judgmental community.
  • Our pot luck breakfasts are a great way to connect.
  • We are here to worship AND serve.
Additional house meetings are scheduled through the month of May (see schedule below), including gatherings right after worship this Sunday, May 5, where sign-up ahead of time is not required.

Hearing your thoughts, not only about what you love about LOTW, but also your concerns, hopes and dreams is the first step in calling a new Pastor. All opinions matter and are important to the future of this church.
The First Step in Calling a New Pastor

House Meetings are the first step in calling a new Pastor. Why? These meetings are held to gather community input on "who we are" as a LOTW community. We will hear what is important to people as a church: Where do people's passions lie? Where would you like to see our energy be focused as a community? This information will help to formulate a Ministry Site Profile document which will be sent to the Synod for use in the initial screening of candidates for LOTW's call of a new pastor.

At the House Meeting, you'll be invited to share:
  • Why you came to Light of the World
  • What keeps you here
  • Your fears, hopes and dreams for the future
Plan to attend so we can hear your voice. Kid-friendly meetings are marked with an asterisk*. Please RSVP to Jann Hillenbrand (NOT the meeting host) at terinjann@frontiernet.net. (No RSVP is needed for meetings held at church.)

Meeting dates are:
  • Fri. May 3: 7:00 pm -- Jeanne Schwartz, Rosemount
  • Sun. May 5: 11:05 am -- Phil and Gaye Lynn Sarff*, at church
  • Sun. May 5: 11:05 am -- Don Steger*, at church -- For Kids and Youth
  • Thur. May 9: 7:00 pm -- Brian and Gina Stangl*, Farmington
  • Sat. May 11: 4:00 pm -- Christopher and Stephanie Visker*, Farmington

The Acts of the Holy Spirit

The last few weeks in worship we have heard stories from the book of Acts where the Holy Spirit is getting loose on ordinary and unlikely people. During the four Sundays of May we will hear more stories from the book of Acts. These stories will focus on the early church as it struggles to decide how it will organize, what it will keep from Judaism, and how to witness to those outside the Jewish faith.

The LOTW Council met for an all-day retreat on Saturday, April 13. At the Retreat, the focus was on what the next steps should be in the process of calling a new pastor.  It was decided that getting input from the congregation to understand "who we are" is a very important first step.

Next meeting: May 22
