Mental Health: Let's Talk About It
Tuesday Bible Study

Each week we read and discuss the scripture for the following Sunday. No experience is required. Come with your curiosity and questions. Leave with new insight into these stories, our God, your faith and life, and our community of believers. A promise: it will enrich your faith and your life.

The evening group will take a break until the fall, however, the Tuesday morning group will continue to gather at 8:30 am.  We meet at the World Headquarters in Apple Valley, which is right across the street from Famous Dave's. All are welcome.

Young Voices for Change: On the Road

YV4C_Kasson Trip

Last Sunday, April 14th, Young Voices for Change had a chance to take our months of hard work and fun on the road.  We were invited to present at a Southeastern MN Synod conference called "Bullying in Our Midst", giving a one-hour presentation of what we've been doing to learn about and address bullying in our schools.

The youth who attended -- Kaleb, Tabitha, Gabby, Anika, and Faith -- did an amazing job putting together several months' worth of information and presenting it to a room full of more than thirty adults.  The attendees were amazed at our kids' passion and energy.  Wendy and I have to agree!  We had a blast.

Click here to see a fantastic video of all our kids in action.

I couldn't feel prouder.  Our kids do some amazing things to take their faith and their passion out into the world.

Mental Health: Let's Talk About It!

Mental Illness: maybe someone in your family has it or an acquaintance does. Mental illness: the thing that is so difficult to name, let alone talk about. But talk about it we must so that we can better understand, support and get help if needed for those affected and maybe ourselves. The newly launched Wellstone-Barlow Mental Health Initiative -- a partnership between Dave Wellstone and Ken Barlow -- is designed to do just that -- get people talking about mental illness and move beyond the taboos into action. Hear about the experiences of Ken Barlow, recently diagnosed with bipolar disease and whose father died with it. Know how he's dealt with the stigma attached to mental illness and what he's learned from it that has led him to help "jump start" the public discussion.

The LOTW Council met for an all-day retreat on Saturday, April 13.

At the Retreat, the focus was on what the next steps should be in the process of calling a new pastor.  It was decided that getting input from the congregation to understand "who we are" is a very important first step. Plans are being made to organize and schedule House Meetings, where you will have an opportunity to let your opinions be heard.

In other news, we will meet at Meadowview Elementary for worship in June, July and August.

House Meetings

Watch your email for information on dates, times and places for House Meetings. This is where you are invited to offer your input on "who we are" as a LOTW community. This information will help develop our Ministry Site Profile.

Please plan to pick a date to attend. EVERY voice is important.
