Leaders MUST LEAD and have the courage to explore new ways to position their group to THRIVE,  not just SURVIVE.
Remarkable Day of Music, Education, Friendship & Fond Memories

Thanks to funding from the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and tireless hours of behind the scenes work from members of the Nashville Singers, 50+ young singers were treated to a fabulous day of music education at Lipscomb University's Collins Auditorium provided by legendary arranger, composer, director and clinician, Dr. Kirby Shaw.

Brenda Williams, Choral Director at Riverdale High School remarked via Facebook, "My students thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this! Thank you for this amazing opportunity--it was a GREAT day!!"

The day included a mini-concert featuring a performance by the Nashville Singers along with the young singers performing Shaw's arrangements of "Doin' It Acappella," "Sinner Man," and Joe Liles' arrangement of "Teach the Children to Sing."

Shortly after the concert, attendees were treated to a panel discussion with "acappella thought leaders" Dr. Kirby Shaw (legendary arranger/composer/director/clinician), Dr. Cedric Dent (25-year member of Take-6, the most awarded vocal group in history, including 10 Grammy Awards, 10 Dove Awards, a Soul Train Award) and Dr. Gary Wilson (Director of Choral Activities at Lipscomb University).

We were event treated to an impromptu and stirring performance by Dr. Cedric Dent during the panel discussion.

Special thanks to Nashville Singers Associate Director Sloan Yarborough, Advisory Board Members Margaret Campbelle-Holman, David Winters, and Lynn McGill, and volunteer Debbie Winters for their assistance in helping us to execute this event. Kudos to Michael Thornton for serving as accompanist to Dr. Shaw throughout the day.

John Jackson, as usual, took some great photos for us.

Leaders MUST LEAD and have the courage to explore new ways to position their group to THRIVE,  not just SURVIVE.
Take 6 is Take 6 because we are strong in three areas. First is the arranging. We have arrangements on a level that most groups have a hard time grasping. Number two, we have very strong lead singers. The guys in our group do things outside of Take 6. They are constantly called because they are great lead singers. Number three, the collective range of the group has always been our strength. Our bass singer is one of the lowest bass singers that you will hear, and he's getting lower as he gets older. He does things that still boggle my mind, because his voice is still dropping. But we also have had really good first tenors too. So those three things combined I think really make Take 6 quite unique. - Dr. Cedric Dent (from an interview on www.jazz.com)
