A Few Words from Dr. Kirby Shaw!

Dr. Kirby Shaw Master Class for Young Singers
Dr. Kirby Shaw Master Class for Young Singers
Master Class with Dr. Kirby Shaw This Saturday!

Thanks to grant funding from the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, on
Saturday September 20th, at Lipscomb's Collins Auditorium, the Nashville Singers will be presenting an all-day FREE music education offering to middle and high school singers on the art of a cappella singing. The event is co-sponsored by Lipscomb University.

Dr. Kirby Shaw has made a major impact in choral music education and has shared his musical expertise in 45 states, of the USA and 14 other countries. He has degrees in Music Education and Choral Composition from San Jose State University  and a DMA degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Washington. Dr. Shaw's teaching is infused with a sense of humor and breadth of knowledge that is transmitted in an exciting and highly contagious manner. He has scatted one-on-one with such notables as Bobby McFerrin and Al Jarreau, and has overseen the creation of hundreds of educational recordings, and is a composer and arranger with nearly 3,000 choral compositions/arrangements in print. Kirby's music is sung around the world and has sold over 20 million copies.

In addition to Dr. Shaw, additional clinicians for the event include Margaret Campbelle-Holman, Executive Director of Choral Arts Link and Artistic Director of the MET Singers, as well as Sloan Yarborough, Associate Director of the Nashville Singers.

The objective of this event is to enrich the lives of 100+ middle and high school singers through participation in a music education event led by world class clinicians.

Participants should plan to arrive by 8:30am to pick up materials needed throughout the day. Following a few songs to open the event from the Nashville Singers, the master class will run from 9:00am to 3:00pm with 90 minutes for lunch and restroom breaks. To have adequate materials on hand, advanced registration is encouraged.

Register online at www.nashvillesingers.org. Participants can bring a sack lunch or order a box lunch with a bottle of water when they register online for just $10. Upon registration, attendees will be provided with PDFs of the music and MP3 files of rehearsal tracks to prepare for the event.

MINI CONCERT

A mini concert will be presented from 3:30pm to 4:30pm to showcase the talent of the participating students, and will include a performance by the Nashville Singers. The finale will feature the students joining forces with the Nashville Singers to perform "Teach the Children to Sing," written and arranged by Joe Liles.
