2014 Grant Recipients Announced

The Nashville Singers received the largest number of application for grant funding in our history this year. While we believe all applicant schools and nonprofits are doing great things in the field of music education in Middle Tennessee, we were faced with the tough job of picking just three to receive a $750.00 grant award.

We encourage all applicant organizations and previous recipients to apply again in 2015.

This year's recipients of the Music Makes a Difference grant funding include:

Bellevue Middle School Music Boosters to receive $750.00 music education grant
The award-winning, nationally-recognized music program at Bellevue Middle school has set extremely high standards pf excellence in an effort to enrich and educate the lives of students and parents. Instrumental grades 5-8 including Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, String Orchestra, and Full Orchestra. There is also an after-school Choir. These funds will impact 250 students and will be used for new music, music stands, posture chairs, chair racks, as well as association/festival fees.

VSA Arts Tennessee
to receive $750.00 music education grant
VSA Tennessee is a statewide nonprofit that works with young people with disabilities through the
arts. They offer 10 artist residencies in schools, workshops to expose young people to careers in the
arts, a dulcimer choir program for young people with Autism, a dance program for young people
with Down syndrome, performances and exhibitions that promote the abilities of people with
disabilities and professional development workshops. They also offer the Young Soloist program that
feeds into an international music competition. At the State level, the Young Soloist program also
offers workshops, performance opportunities, and internships for young people with disabilities. These funds will be used for the Young Soloist program as part of the Nashville Jazz Workshop to help pay for the teaching and performing artists.

Music City Youth Orchestra to receive $750 music education grant
The mission of the Music City Youth Orchestra is to attract and educate the youth of our community about the life importance of music. This nonprofit organization is in their seventh season and is dedicated to  providing a dynamic atmosphere for student musicians in Middle Tennessee to explore a diverse repertoire for string orchestra. These funds will be used to support MCYO music education programs.

The Nashville Singers Receive a Visit from the
Men of Harmony Barbershop Chorus

Before last week's recording session, the Men of Harmony Chorus paid us a visit. The evening started with some informal quartet and small group singing. We then took turns singing songs and providing feedback to one another. A great time was had by all.

The relationship between the Men of Harmony and the Nashville Singers goes back many years. The Nashville Singers have performed at two of their Valentines Dinners and participated in two joint rehearsals with MOH. Men of Harmony members have participated in Acappella Academy and served as ushers at two of our Season of Harmony Concerts. Their director, Bryan Patrick is also a member of the Nashville Singers and has brought the ensemble a new level of ambition and performance skills.

   Quote of the Week

todd news 2

The best relationships develop when both parties see value in collaboration, when egos are set aside, when "territorialism" is viewed as a bad word, when visionary leaders/strategic thinkers look at other arts organizations in their community as potential partners and not just competitors, and when leaders and members realize they can learn from one another, share successes and overcome obstacles together, and end up stronger as a result. From my perspective, true collaboration in the performing arts will always be much more than sharing the stage at an event. But, that IS a step in the right direction. - Todd Wilson, Executive Director of the Nashville Singers
