Record-Setting Event Draws 56 Attendees from Middle Tennessee, East Tennessee, Georgia, and New York

Derric Johnson coaching the Nashville Singers on "Over the Rainbow"

Almost 60 singers gathered at Whitworth Memorial Baptist Church this past Saturday for an all-day music education event called Acappella Academy.

Derric Johnson providing coaching to members of the collegiate acappella group,
the Midnight Ramblers from Rochester, New York.

Attendees included members of the Nashville Singers, middle school, high school and college students and other men and women interested in performing their vocal performance skills. This included a 16-voice male acappella group known as the Midnight Ramblers who traveled all the way from the University of Rochester in New York.

Sloan Yarborough providing encouraging words to our attendees

Thanks to grant funding from the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, Nashville Singers was able to secure Derric Johnson of Disney's Voices of Liberty and Regeneration fame to serve as our special guest clinician. Johnson was assisted by Margaret Campbelle-Holman and Nashville Singers' own Sloan Yarborough.

Special kudos to the staff at Whitworth Memorial Baptist Church for being such gracious hosts, Advisory Board member David Winters and his wife Debbie Winters for traveling from Clarksville and staffing our registration and merchandise booth for the entire day, to Michael Thornton for his keyboard accompaniment, and to Pastor Van Richmond of the New Life Church for providing use of his sound system.
