Steady Growth Continues Through Down Economy

Important Rehearsal with Greg Gilpin Added to Calendar

On Sunday March 2nd, at 4:00pm, over 200 Middle Tennessee singers from the Nashville Singers, Nashville In Harmony, Metro Nashville Chorus, Hunters Lane High School Chorale, and the MLK Reunion Choir will assemble at Glendale Baptist Church for a special rehearsal with world renowned conductor, composer and clinician Greg Gilpin to prepare two of Glipin's compositions, "Why We Sing" and "Awaken the Music." This will help us prepare for the grand finale performance of the combined choirs at the Ryman Auditorium on Tuesday evening March 4th. The church is located at 1021 Glendale Lane, Nashville, TN 37204.

Originally from the "Show-Me" state of Missouri, Greg resides in Indianapolis, IN. He is a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Vocal Music Education.

Greg is a well-known, ASCAP award-winning choral composer and arranger with hundreds of publications to his credit. He is also in demand as a conductor for choral festivals, all-district and all-state choirs and is a member of MENC and ACDA. As Director of Educational Choral Publications for Shawnee Press, Inc., Greg oversees creation of the educational music products for this distinguished publisher. Greg is busy as a studio musician and producer in the recording industry. These projects include commercial jingles, CD projects, Broadway and Disney. He has worked musically with Ray Boltz, Bill and Gloria Gaither, Sandi Patty, David Clydesdale as well as principal pops conductor, Jack Everly and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

All singers should make every possible effort to attend this important rehearsal.

Meet Our Most Recent Guest Vocalist

Adam Chesney wandered into our meeting last Thursday night after visiting our website. He jumped right onto the risers and spent the evening singing with the bass section. Adam grew up in Chattanooga but now lives in Franklin. Chesney is also the owner of Monarch Landscapes. You may have seen a profile on Adams company on Great American Country (GAC) back in 2011. He and wife Lee have been married for 15 years.

Meet Our Newest Advisory Board Member

Amy Strange is the newest volunteer to join our advisory board. She attended the University of Mississippi and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology/English.

She works as the Technology Coordinator for CBIZ Benefits & Insurance Services of Tennessee.

In her application, when asked what attracted her to this opportunity, she replied, "I believe that we all have potential to do great things and that we must instill that in others, especially children. So, they may be able to find their talents and abilities to motivate them toward success." Amy also volunteers as an adult mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee.

We're glad to have someone like Amy on our team.

Nashville in Harmony will be joined by four Nashville vocal groups specifically invited because of their diversity, their musical excellence, and their contribution to building community in Nashville.

Nashville In Harmony, the Nashville Singers, Metro Nashville Chorus, Hunters Lane High School Chorale, and the MLK Reunion Choir will take the Ryman stage separately to share their beautiful vocal gifts with music of their choosing. Then all five groups will blend their voices together as one to form a finale chorus of over 250 voices. This massive chorus will be under the direction of special guest conductor and choral composer, Greg Gilpin. In a city known for it's music, and a venue known for historic performances, this will truly be a magical night worthy of Music City USA!

Music Makes a Difference Grant Funding Increased by 50%
Applications Now Being Accepted

Nashville Singers organization believes in giving back to our community. To help support our mission, from 2011 through 2013 we've given away $5,000 in the form of grants and scholarships supporting our mission to enrich lives through singing and the support of music education.

For the previous three years, the grant amount was $500 per recipient. In 2014, this has been increased to $750 per recipient. The Music Makes a Difference grant program is designed to provide financial assistance to school music programs and nonprofits with a music education mission..
